however, be aware that, at least in my case, the chains supplied were long and I had to modify them by cutting and removing one set of cross links. Additionally the chain tensioner needed a lot of work.

I had to cut my chains shorter too...it was not too hard to do. I guess if they don:t have the exact length in stock they ship you the next longer one that they do have on hand.

I bought and highly recommend the heavy duty tensioner. The one that has the ring in the center from which the springs radiate outwards.

With cheap bolt cutters it was easy enough to size the chains on the tensioner pretty quickly.

WC. which tensioners do you have?

The point being, I suggest that you fit them when they arrive and modify them as necesssary

I second that advice! That is what I did...would not want to be outside in the freezing cold messing with the chains the first time...if one has a heated space to work in then temp is no concern but I bet it took me a good couple hours to get my chains sized properly.

Henro,
I ended up making a set myself. Used light chain, springs from the hardware store and a quick link. The rubber one from tirechains.com was too large to effectively snug the chains on my rear tires. The spring type for the fronts were fine.

Pretty much all of the suppliers recommended against front chains on a 4WD tractor when I was checking into it. I really wanted fronts for the same reasons you stated. When my angled plow engages a full load the front end wants to go in the opposite direction!

Oh BTW Kubota also said no on the fronts (the same for ballast).

I do not see a link to indicate the supplier of tire chains. Can someone help?

Well I fit the rear chains yesterday. I also had to remove a full cross section. I was having a heck of a time getting them on until I figured out the best way to mount them. The 2link chains I bought weigh about 100#s each.

On the R4's or ag tires for that matter I suppose, it's very easy to get the chains on because of the lugs. I'm not sure about turfs.

Spread the chain out like they tell you to on their website.

Drive forward onto the chain until there's about 2ft. behind the tire.

Hook one of the cross chains over a lug.

Drive forward slowly and the chain will wrap tightly around the tire by itself.

I opted not to buy the heavy duty springs. Instead I went down to TSC and bought a bunch of the black tarp straps. They were about a buck each and I figure when I don't have the chains on the tractor there are a lot more uses for them.
I drove it over to the nieghbors and back and up and down my hill and they stayed on great.

Do not use tirechains.com. Their customer service is awfull, as is their return policy. I would look for tire chains locally, as their prices are not that good either.
