I never pull over 65. And have had MULTIPLE blow-outs with ST tires. Proper inflation EVERY time. They are junk, IMO. My 16" E-rated tires on my truck last forever.

I always have trouble getting LT's mounted though. Nobody will do it...

Yup, my horse trailer has a the manufacturer's tag on it that gives all the weights, axle capacity, S/N etc. that specifies LT235/85R16E as the tire size. That is what was on it when we bought it gently used a few years ago. I checked with trailer maker just to be thorough, that's what they still are putting on the new trailers. I am fortunate enough to have a local tire and alignment shop that will mount the tires for me.

I can see this thing going the other way. Trailer owner is in a corner and has to use an ST type tire not specified by the trailer builder, it's on the tag. Tire blows and causes accident, now what? Is the trailer owner liable because they didn't use the proper type tire?

I own 5 trailers and I don't run trailer tires on any of them.....I have purchased E rated LT tires for my big trailers and will never purchase ST tires.....been very happy with the switch to LT tires plus I've actually been able to purchase some second hand real cheap when guys are wanting to up grade to bigger tires .....purchased a set of 1 1/2 y/o 245/75/16 LT E rated tires with less than 15K miles on them for $150 and they are on my cattle trailer now

Does your state require trailer inspections?

Chris
I can't answer for him but if he hauling commercial with a dot number his truck and trailer has to pass a annual dot safety check which includes the tires.

And if dot wants to run a roadside full level one inspection it includes among lots of things...the tires.

State run scale house will sometimes check to see if the tires capacity meets the GAWRs.
I've had them actually crawl underside to check the trailers axle tags and check the tires pressure if they look low.

These inspections are run by the state.

Carlisle are the worst of the worst. Made in USA to boot. Goodyear Marathon are right behind them.

We have great service out of Greenballs and Maxxis.
