Tires for snow plowing.

I don't know what part of the east coast you live in but there can't be any hills, or sloped concrete driveways that has melted and then frozen back up .
I've have to sand my uphill driveway because it freezes in the middle of melting and was black ice you can't even walk on.
I keep several buckets of dry sand in the garage just for the frozen melt. Don't need salt, just sand.
Plus we can't have salt on the dog's precious feet. :)

I've had pretty good luck with just turfs too.

I run turfs loaded and have a fairly steep driveway, but w/ loaded tires and 4x4 have not had any issues blowing snow, the deepest I have ever had to deal w/ was about 24", if Ice shows up just throw some sand.....

I have a 2520, and it's primary job is to move snow. From most accounts I have read, it seems that most prefer the "turf" tire over the R4 for traction in snow.

When I bought my 2520, I was uncertain as to what tire to get. I wanted the "Stiffer" sidewalls of the R4's for any loader work, but thought a lot about the traction issues for plowing. I ended up with the R4's, and added the ballast box for additional rear weight. That does the trick for me. The added rear weight makes all the difference, and I'm very happy with this set up.

What tire pressure do you run for winter? It seems lower would be better to a point, but where is that point where the pressure is too low? I've had a tire come off the rim on a lawn tractor because the pressure was too low. I don't want to go through that with tractor tires!

I have a 2305 with R4 tires and I run 15 psi front and back the lower pressures smooth out the ride. I don't have a FL or BH and don't have to worry about overloading them, I havn't had any trouble in two years. I have a 12 degree road beside my house and I can't plow going uphill without chains on the back and I can't steer without chains on the front.

Ashes from a fireplace or wood stove are WAY better than sand.

Well I started out with the HDAP tires. After putting on the rear weight box with 300 lbs of weight in it & driving it some, I had to put the R4s on.
The HDAPs were too soft & the ride was very spongy feeling. The R4s worked fine & the ride felt much better.
