Tires Tires going flat on 4510 w/ 460 loader

I have a one-year-old 4510 with a loader and brush cutter installed. The tractor came with the r4 industrial tires, which I have inflated to about 40psi.

The problem I am having is front tires going flat. I have had two flats when clearing brush in 50 hours of use, one left front and one right front.

Is there a weakness in these tires? Are they too small, too flimsy, or what?

I used a Massey Ferguson 135 for years with an occasional flat cutting heavier brush than this. But this tractor has a loader and also I think the front wheels steer more sharply to the side, both of which could load the front tires more.

How is the air getting out of the tires?
Must be a leak, and I would suspect thorns. Is it a slow leak?

Usually tires losing air isn't a mystery, but sometimes real hard to find the point they are leaking.

I doubt it has anything to do with it being a 4510 w/ 460 loader. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

It has tubeless tires and you look down one moment and they are ok, then a little later the tire is just loose on the rim. You really can't see the front tires from the cab in operation unless you lean forward and look so I don't see what causes it.

I take them to the tire place and they reseat them. No holes, no visible damage.

Not a gradual leak. They are getting peeled loose by turning and pushing or the bead is getting broken by a stick - something sudden like that.

The point is that my older tractor did not do this under similar conditions. Why?

I can't imagine the tires are going from 40 psi to being peeled off the rim in one motion. That would be in the 'catastrophic' category of a 'loud bang'. Also, would see some pretty definite scuff marks at the bead if a stick is pushing in there, or if a stump or rock was hit when turning.

I suspect they are losing air (likely a slow leak), and then come loose from the rim at low air pressure.

I didn't think a cab would keep you from seeing the front wheels. But I don't have one, so can't say for sure. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hope you find the cause and/or figure out how to avoid it.

Sometimes you just get a bad tire! My reccomendation would be go to an auto store like napa or an orschelns and get a gallon of tire sealant like slime only the cheaper kind and put a gallon in each tire. Or take them off and get them foam filled you will never have another tire go flat.

I had my 4310 front tires filled with foam. It added about 80 pounds to each tire and they will never go flat again. Cost was about $90 per tire. You might want to check out the pictures I posted in the general owning / operating list.
I've only used them for 3 days, but am really happy so far.

BTW - I was doing a lot of brush clearing and had problems very similar to what you describe. Those thorns are murder on tires.

Not sure of the exact brand since I didn't have a choice. It looks like soild black rubber when it sets up.
Olderog Tire in Davenport is the only one in the area that does it and I was very pleased with their service and work.

Hey I just posted on this same subject, then found your post. I guess I should search before I post.

Robison, did you solve your flat tire issues with your 4510? I have the same setup (4510 w/460 and w/R4 tires). I have also been doing a lot of bushhoggin'.
