TIRES QUESTIONS AG vs R4

   / TIRES QUESTIONS AG vs R4 #11
I went with Ag tires and have been very happy with them. If you have really rugged rocky ground or lots of thorns then the extra thickness of the R4 would help prevent flats. Otherwise I would get the real tractor tires.

I couldn't imagine having to ask for permission to cut a tree on my property. It use to be I could do almost anything but recently they've changed it so I need to get a permit for a septic system. It use to be more than 10 acres and you didn't need one.

I have Ags on my MX5100. I will say they will flat out tear up a lawn. That's the only down side I can think of, but if you are doing all ground engagement, they're the way to go. By the way, I checked the number of ply's between the R1's and the R4's and they were both 6 ply.

I purchased a new tractor this past summer, I ordered it with a snow plow and R-4's, I had the rears loaded. My older tractor had Ag's and weren't loaded, that tractor had traction problems, I plow a paved road 1/4 mile up hill all the way,it's about a 25deg incline. I've been worried that the R-4's could be worse? Yesterday with our first plowable snow, I was able to plow, the tractor/R-4's combo did great, plowed up hill,I couldn't do that with my older tractor. New tractor is a L4740 w/ 84" plow, older tractor is a L4200 w/72" plow.

I had R1s on my L2900 and other than they absolutely destroyed my lawn and runway they were fine. I have R4s on my MX5100 and so far I love them. They don't have the traction of the R1s, but with 4WD it hasn't been a problem. I have been cleaning out an old pond that is about 1.5 acres surface area with this tractor and I have found the R4s do a much better job than the R1s did. I can float above the muck better with them due to the larger footprint and the tires are not as susceptible to damage from the sharp rocks as much as the R1s were. When I am using the tractor off the road I pretty much keep it in 4WD. I love the MX5100, to-date it has done everything I expected of it and more. I can't imagine not being able to cut trees or anything else for that matter on my own land! We have some property in Canada that has more restrictions than here (higher taxes too). But, you can still cut the trees or bushes really without any interference. I really believe that most of us (Americans) are really fed up with big brother government, but change is difficult and slow.

with a 40-45 degree angle track to maintain one in every 5 years. [to be used as tourist scenic walking track]
With either tyre tread style your life will be in jeopardy every five years.

No way in H***'s half acre you'll find me on a wheeled tractor on 40-45 degree slopes. I plan to draw social security until I'm a hundred and five.:D

I have Ag's on both my tractors, on dirt all the time and they work great!

I asked this question in an other thread but i cant seem to find a tire specific thread for any tractor although mine in related to the KUBOTA MX5100 HST 4WD

I have a 15 Acre flat to undulating land with about a third rather steep land with a 40-45 degree angle track to maintain one in every 5 years. [to be used as tourist scenic walking track]
Lube, fueling, and hyd systems on tractors are not designed to work on those slopes. Also, even with AGs, I dont know of any tractors that will climb a 45degree slope, much less have the reserve traction to do any work. Even if the tractor would you would have to stay on it unless you carried climbing gear for ground work. ... Those were some hardy tourists.
