I never imagined there were knock off tractor implements; I am glad I started this tread. This morning my local dealer also said the same thing; he says the quality is low.
The other chipper I was looking at is the WoodMaxx TM-86H because it is designed for sub compact tractors, like the Deere 2210. It has a variable speed hydraulic powered in-feed roller.

WoodMaxx TM-86H Hydraulic Chipper for Subcompact Tractor - WoodMaxx
Though I have never seen a WoodMaxx in person either so I wonder about their quality. Any input; I'll begin searching for older threads on the WoodMaxx TM-86H.
I appreciate all your feedback!

It's remarkable to me how "exactly" they copy something when they do a knockoff, almost to a fault. I am sure part of that is so they can skip the engineering, but that is scary -- if they don't understand why something was designed that way, the copy can have serious flaws. Not to mention that it would be way past their ability to "gin" up the metal alloys used in the original, so they are likely making a geometrical copy but with no knowledge of the actual material properties or requirements. Think about how many cheap tools look right and then you use them and they bend or break because the manufacturer didn't use the right material or treatment. It can range from an annoyance to a safety/injury hazard. I think for something like a chipper, which is already dangerous even at 100% reliability, it's very risky.

I see Chinese companies copy some of the software I develop, and they pretty much clone the interface without understanding/caring about the actual function. So the product looks good and is a lot cheaper, but barely works right under the skin. They focus so much on cloning it that they will also clone any bugs/errors in the software without knowing or realizing it. It's annoying and amusing at the same time.

I always stayed away from cheap tools (including Harbor Freight); growing up I would see people buy them and they would break with little use. It was obvious to me, at a very young age, that Chinese use cheap inferior metal and so I can easily picture the chippers being the same. s219, I am sure the software is a disaster after they copy it too. We don't have to go to those pop-up truckload tool sales, now that we have the internet, to find this garbage... what an eyeopener for me. This is a first for me as I always buy quality brands from my local JD Dealer (John Deere, Land Pride, Horst, Curtis, Woods).
I do like the WoodMaxx chipper but will need to do research on that company now.

I put together a toolbox for my boat with leftover tools and some new Harbor Freight stuff -- on the thought that the tools would get used so rarely that I just needed the bare minimum. Well, I was down at the boat one day troubleshooting the bilge pump, and had to jumper a wire around a corroded plug. Pulled out the Harbor Freight crimper, and it bent -- almost like lead -- when I made the first crimp!! Hard to believe. I replaced it with an old decrepit extra crimper I had, but previously rejected because it was rusty. Well, I'll take old and rusty over new and bendy!

By the way, if you were closer I'd sell you my Wallenstein BX-42 for a good deal. One of these days I will put it up for sale, but haven't been able to bring myself too, since it's such a good chipper and they are so expensive new. I just haven't needed to use it since we finished clearing/landscaping our property, so it's probably time to pass on to a new owner.

I have a BXM-42 and it is a very well built piece of equipment. The M includes a shredder for branches. I burn anything above 4"s so this works for me.
