Titan got a bad reputation in my opinion when they bought out Firestone Tires and tried to bust the union in 1998. There was a strike back then that lasted for 3 years. This was just after the CEO Morry Taylor spent 6 million dollars on a run for president of the U.S. in 1996. Things settled down after a few years and now they produce as good of a tire as anybody else.

When I replaced the R1s on my old JD 770 I put Goodyear R4s on the rear and Titan R4s on the front. The price was competitive and the tires are of good quality and I am happy to report I have had zero problems. I would certainly buy this brand again.

Uhhhh???? Wasn't it BRIDGESTONE that bought Firestone? Titan bought GoodYears AG tire division. Firestone and Titan/Goodyear have no connection.

WHO... ran for president from Titan tire?

Yep, you are right, Goodyear not Firestone. I had family and friends working at both places back then and I just got them mixed up.

Hi Whitey.. just curious. What size R4 tires did you put on the 770? If you remember what size were the R1's? thanks

I got to thinking since my last post, I think we were both wrong. I think Armstrong was bought out by Pirelli who was bought out by Titan.

Morry Taylor "The Grizz" is or was the CEO of Titan who ran for president.

Titan WAS Armstrong at one point. They (Titan) now own what WAS the GoodYear AG tire division. (Not sure where/if Pirelli fits in the chain) Take a peek at the Titan website. Titan and GoodYear both listed together now.

I talked at great length with Titans US marketing director at the National Farm Machinery Show (in Louisville Ky) last Feb. Titan/GoodYear farm tires are now one common company

I have Titans on my tractor but I really have nothing to compare them to. I drive over branches, go through Deep mud, climb hills and they haven't faied me. .....{Yet}...

Quite often I see someone wondering about the quality of Titan brand tires on their CUT.

FYI, there is a Titan plant in Bryan, Ohio. Today's Wooster paper had a little article about the fact that this plant is expanding to make tires to fit on 63" rims. That's 5 feet 3 inches across the inner diameter of the tire. The O.D. will be 13 feet 6 inches and each tire will weigh something like 13,000 lb. They are going to be making about 20 tires per week, and the tires will be the largest in the world.

I don't think you'll see them on many CUTs, but they will have something very much like an R4 tread pattern. Wonder if we can get them in R1s? :)
Where abouts in bryan Oh.is the factory located?I live just over the boarder in Michigan (Hillsdale county).coobie

I was looking over the Titan website when I noticed some interesting tires.

1) Their IT 520 Radial R-4s. You can see them on the tread pattern pdf on the site. But it is an R-4 tire with deep, 45 degree single lug design. It looks like a wide R-1. Seems like a great combination with all the strengths of an R-1 in an R-4. I suspect they are pricey.

2) Versatorque Radial. This is an R-1 with a bi-directional tread. Very interesting.

3) The Dyna Torque II. This is a long bar/short bar R-1. Nothing new about that, but they claim they outpull a typical single lug R-1 by 15% on plowed ground. What does that mean? Almost any type of ground can be plowed. What is the advantage of a long bar/short bar R-1 over a typical R-1?
