I need tires on my old ford 4500. I rarely use the machine anymore, just when I need a backhoe. I have a new kioti that's taken it's place.
I have a scap yard near me that sets aside good, usable stuff to sell like a flea market. They sometimes have tractor tires.
They have a set of 13.6-24 tires mounted on rims. Pretty good shape. My ford currently has 16.9-24 tires on it now.
Will the junk yard tires fit? I know the rims won't, but I'm talking rubber size. How would I be able to decipher tractor tire size numbers in the future?

Firestone has a pretty thorough tire chart on their site. I was just looking at it the other day. You can't tell anything about the tire height from those numbers.

13.6-24, 47.6" tall, 13.6" wide. 16.9-24, 52.4" tall, 16.9" wide.

The 16.9 will have either a 14" or 15" wide rim. The 13.6 probably has a 10" wide rim. Your tire guy will not love you... I would check with him first.

google up "ag tires" or "r1 tires" or "ag r1 tires" and find the tire manufactures, and then do a zip code search or like for dealers that are near you for tractor tires.
call up your local tractor dealers and ask about local tractor tire phone numbers / names.
call up places a couple hours away.

different places are all about name brand and charge double to triple the price. vs other tractor tire dealers that sell no name brand stuff.

double check on price, some charge per mile, some charge flat rate, and other have there own funky pricing. to come out and install them. ask them if they want tires / rims to stay on tractor or not. good chance it will be they want tires/rims left on tractor.

some rear tractor tires ya there small enough you can actually man handle. and if you have extra tools / tractor with correct setup you can handle larger tires more easily. but generally after a couple hundred plus pounds (counting rim weight) and over all size / awkwardness. leave it to professional.
