During the past couple of weeks after starting up my TN65, the dash panel lights provide mysterious indicators and such.

For instance...when I start it up, the battery light displays; the fuel guage registers "0, or completely empty"; the safety horn (the bothersome beeping sound) beeps constantly. If I turn the rotating light switch all the way clockwise...all the idiots lights go off, the fuel meter registers correctly but the headlights remain on.

I suspect there was moisture in the switch, but what should I do now? Remove the switch and spray WD-40 on it and hope for the best; or buy a new switch and hope this resolves the problem?

Anyone else run into this situation?

Replies are encouraged...thank you. CL

Chuck, I don't know the answer. I think there is a special spray for electronics like switches, not WD40. Radio Shack can help you with it.

I would guess that you should be looking for a frayed wire(s) or a bad switch. I assume the tractor runs fine in every other respect? Can you get a wiring diagram? Maybe with a VOM you can look for faults?

Anything happen before the problem started? Power wash? Anything?

Good luck.

Thanks, Bob. There was a pretty good rainstorm before the lights went crazy on the dash. Otherwise, the tractor runs great.

Perhaps the switch needs to dry out. I'm going to remove the switch and see if there's anything wrong.

Stay tuned...we'll let you know what the problem is.

If the tractor got good and wet, that's probably the problem. I had my indicators and and blinkers on my TN65 do the exact same thing after I got a little too zealous with hose. I accidentally sprayed down the dash panel. then the water dried out everything went back to normal.

I removed the switch (the real name is a "shunter") and sprayed it with carb cleaner and let it dry out. After it was dry...I reinstalled it, only to have less lights or gauges working. At least I know what the switch controls.

Ended up going to the New Holland dealer in Reynoldsville, Pa and they had to ordered the part.

From now on....I'll cover the cockpit area with a tarp.

Guess these New Hollands don't take well to a good bath. I've had my Class III machine winking at me with the turn signals on more than one occasion after giving ours a needed bath.

Fortunately for me an air hose has always taken care of the problem.

Just picked up the "shunter" switch, or the light switch as we call it in the USA. But first...I must give the TN65 and much-needed pressure washer bath from all the brush hogging.

After it dries out...I'll install the new "shunter" and see how it operates.

Stay tuned...News at 11:00

I avoid bathing mine. Too much work :D .

Hi Chuck! If it isn't a moisture problem, it maybe mice. One of my tractors I sold a few years ago had problems with mice chewing away the plastic insulation off the wires behind the dash. This created shorts and all kinds of trouble. I had to use electrical tape to repair the damage more than once. Good luck! Ken

^%$#^ mice.. I hate them... A couple years ago they took over my NH 7610s and my ford 660. Ever time I went out to use the tractor.. mouse droppings.. or something chewed up. Start the tractor.. here a screecha nd thump, and halves of mice start shooting out from the fan/belt/radiator section...

Cooked one the other day that was crawling around on the manifold when i cranked up to mow...

I now leave the blue weatherproof bait on my tractor when it sets for a few days or more. I leave them plenty so they can eat all they want. Then when i move the tractor.. i usually find 3-10 dead rodents under the mower aftert he d-con got them..
