Your tractor looks great for having 700 hours on it. You would not regret stepping up to the TN with a 6' or 7' chopper behind it will still work circles around the 1720. I run a 6' behind mine and go around 5mph, I could have went with a 7' or larger but I use it in our pens and didn't want it sticking outside the rear wheels so it wouldn't catch any post or wire while mowing along the fence. I have used a 1920 with a 5' chopper and it does a decent job, it is a little slower and you can definitly notice the difference between a 5' chopper and a 6' or 7' chopper. Where abouts in NY do you live, I am all the way over in WNY right on Lake Erie by the PA border.

Robert,

The TN is running great. I just need more time to play with it.
I looked at a TS and they are very nice but also very large.
What about a TL?
I would have rather had a TL100, but the cost was a good deal higher and I could not really justify the need for that much HP. But 100 hp, 4wd sure would be nice.
I think you have the right idea, everyone should have at least 2 tractors!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif The only problem is how to pay for it....

Lewis,

Great looking tractor!

I think robert has got it figured out. You will enjoy the upgrade to the TN65.
Attached is the TN65 I rented. Great unit.

You probably already know this, but get the largest mower you can find/afford. With a 100 acers the 6-7 ft mower will take for ever.
I have a heavy duty 6' and I wish it was a batwing. Also the TN65 can handle a very big mower. My TN70 does not even notice the 6' bushhog 286 and it weighs ~1000lbs.

Long term I will probably keep the 286 for brush clearing and buy a 15' batwing finish mower for the large areas.

The 1720 has been well cared for - always covered if stored outdoors. It is an excellent machine.

My place is in Allegany County, less than two hours East of you.

cheers,

It is nice to see others from this part of WNY. I am going to Lamb and Websters auction Saturday in Springville and hopefully will find something I didn't know I need. The key to keeping a tractor in great condition is keeping it clean like you do. Most large farms with new equipment always wash and wax their machines each spring and constantly wast them during tillage which is why their machines look and last as long as they do. I have to clean mine up as soon as I get it back and get a good coat of wax on it so it will be ready when the fields dry up enoght to put the plows in the ground. Later

I am trying to buy a 235 acre farm and if I do I will be looking at a slightly larger tractor. A TS or TL will do what I need and is something I will weigh out when the time comes. We are buying my neighbor out also so I will be adding the 1920 to my little fleet of tractors pretty soon. It is a good tractor to put in the pens for chopping, then I can consider a larger chopper for the TN. My plan is to get a TS or TL and possibly 5 years down the road get a TM for primary tillage. It is all in my head and will depend on how financing works out but the ag office here has some nice programs for these things plus the deductions really help this time of year as we need them. Your tractor looks great and looks like it has had some time in the dirt to keep it happy. Mine has been gone for 2 weeks now and I really miss it because of the amount of work accumulating here. Oh well, I will talk to you later.

Robert,

Your plans for expansion sound very nice. I've been able to buy my land in two pieces over the past three years, but don't think there will be nearby land for sale soon. Farming has dried up over the past 30 years, with only a handful of small dairies and a couple beef operations left. Many of the fields have not been mowed in a decade or more, and the buckthorns are taking over. It is a shame to see.

My tractor has been used for mowing, chopping, rototilling, lots of bucket work, hauling logs, moving hay bales. Frequent washing, plus waxing twice a year and storing under cover have kept it looking good. It is really well suited for me, but takes a long time to do field work.

I've attached a photo of the tractor at the top of my 20 acre field before cutting it. Looks like I've just come from a 10 acre piece where I'm clearing brush (chain saw in the bucket) in preparation for brush hogging.

Enjoy the auction and Lamb and Webster.

Your area looks nice. The place I am looking at is still surrounded by working farms and the land is leased out to a farmer so I have the possibilty to expand it if the other farms come up for sale which is always a possibility. There is up to 2000 acres of farm land around there so I could end up with a decent farm if things work right and I win the lotto but for now I will have to keep dreaming and keep trying for the 235 acre chunk. The auction had a lot of machinery there and the nice snowstorm we got at the same time didn't help much but I was only there to take picture unless I saw something I needed which I didn't. As always I ran into some people I knew and met some new people as well so it was fun. It sounds and looks like you take great care of your equipment so it should last you a long time. Take care.

Robert,

Good luck with the expansion. No matter which you choose both the TL and the TS are great machines.
