Hello forum. I am hoping someone can shed some light on 3pt backhoe attachments for TN65.

Is it possible to sit in the backhoe seat, lift the stabilizers and use the backhoe bucket to lift/push the tractor forward similar to rubber tired backhoe-front end loader? Being a 3pt, is there any chance of damaging the tractor? Is it recommended to have a subframe?

I'm assuming there would be no issue, but would rather know before purchasing the setup. I can't imagine having to get off the backhoe and jump into the tractor seat to move forward and then climbing back down to get into the backhoe seat and so on.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Dan, it's definitely possible, but I personally wouldn't do it out of safety's sake. I like to have the brake on and the loader down when doing backhoe work. It takes some time to do trenching work, but I'm not in any races. For speed-demon trenchinig, I'd bite the bullet and rent a PTO driven trencher for the weekend.

Maybe I'll have my wife sit in the drivers seat while I backhoe. That way she can move me along...

I've actually done that - not a bad thing to do. Good quality time together /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Question, is there a sub frame for any backhoe on a TN? I've never seen one. My woods 1050 is 3 pt and while I like to have a driver to move me around, not bad with ac and stereo /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif I sometimes do move myself around... yes I know it's "dangerous" but where am I going to go if it's fairly level ground.

I just found out from the dealer that I don't need a subframe for the TN65. Not sure if they make one or not.

Anyone have any idea the price range for a backhoe for a TN65 - any make? I got quoted $7900 for a NH with 12 & 24" buckets, 9' depth. Seem high?

I paid $9000 for a Woods 1050 10 1/2 ' with a 24" bucket and another $600 for a 12" bucket. This is with a PTO pump and tank. I think the backhoe you're looking at is too small for a TN. But if it's ok for you I think the price is fine.

My TN has a subframe for the backhoe - and when I was ordering everything a while back (when I was originally getting a no-cab TN65), they told me that the subframe was the only way to go. Apparently the folks at Bradco said that they'd seen some problems on 3-pt mounted backhoes on the standard TN's. With a cab, I believe that a lot of the problem is minimized because the cab adds quite a bit of structural integrity. In hindsight, I somewhat wish that I got a 3-pt mounted backhoe - the subframe is pretty much permanently mounted and, while it makes the tractor strong as a tank, it eats up way too much ground clearance for my liking. I do a lot of driving into and out of very rocky ditches and creek-beds, and some of those rocks are as big as Volkswagens and I easily get hung up on them.

The NH 759C backhoe is pretty nice - the subframe stays with the backhoe when you remove the backhoe, and it's quite easy to install/remove. It's not the strongest backhoe in the world, but for medium-duty work, it's not bad.

Oh yeah, here's a picture of the Bradco 611 on my TN70S...

I bought a bushhog 965 3pt mount backhoe for my TN65 and ran it off the tractor hydraulics, the backhoe works very well, and so far has not hurt either tractor I have used it on (I now have a TN70). I try not to move the tractor around with the hoe because I know the top link is already taking alot of stress. When I bought my 965, no one made a sub frame for the TN's and my dealer told me that New Holland said I did not need one. I asked him if it voided the warranty in anyway and he said no. He indicated that even NH's biggest hoe which fits the TN series did not offer or require a sub frame.

Same think New Holland, my dealer and Woods told me when I was looking for backhoes for my TN75. I ended up with a 3 pt Woods 1050.
