Hello All
I have a wireless remote 10000 lb winch on a 2" hitch that I can use on my truck and on the rear of my tractor (3PT hitch 2" receiver). I am planning on building a 2" receiver on the front of my TN75 NH tractor for dragging out logs in the woods. My 2 questions are, am I in danger of splitting the tractor in half by pulling from the front and secondly should I upgrade my alternator (currently 45A) ? I am not planning on working this very hard, but will come in handy to drag in those logs from a farther distance. There is plenty of clearance between winch and FEL for this install.

Hello,

I built an hydraulic front winch for my tractor, back I didn't had built the loader yet.

On my tractor, since I have a mid mounted ROPS, it has a bar on each side tying the front to the bellhousing together. So I wasn't too worried about splitting in half.

A year or so ago, I built the loader, which further tied the front of the tractor to the rear together, as I added support bars on the front where the winch is mounted and under the tractor I have crossmembers going from the loader mounts to the rear axle.

Since you're have a FEL on the tractor, I think you should be ok.

Thanks for the info ptsg. By the way where in Portugal are you located. I have been to Portugal several times and lived there for several years as a kid. My family is from the north near Braga.

That's awesome! I'm located more towards the center and close to the coast, near Leiria.

I have been to Leiria, I have an aunt from there. I watched your YouTube video, quite impressive at making your FEL. I made a FEL for my Kubota, but I did not make the cylinders. I don't use it much now since I have the TN75. Do you think I should upgrade my alternator for my electric winch?

Thanks Scarlo.

A lot of people in this area do have family in Canada.

I'm with Rustyiron. If you can, upgrade the alternator. I don't think you should have any space restrictions on that tractor. If possible, another battery as well.

For skidding logs, it's going to be extremely sloooow, and what duty cycle does your winch have? Most have a duty cycle so low, you can't pull very far before you have to let the winch cool off for quite a while.

You should have an extra BIG battery and an alternator over 100 amps added, even then it won't be enough to begin to keep up with the winch under pull.

A hydraulic winch is also sloooooow, but at least a better one will have a 100% duty cycle and not be over loading the electrical system.

For me, I don't do any log skidding at all, so speed is not a problem. Although, mine being custom built, turned out a bit faster than what's on the market.

I built mostly for recovery purposes as I tend to work on hills with hidden holes that can led me to get stuck big time. I do use it as well for pulling the occasional tree that's leaning the wrong way and have to be taken down.

Along with that, I've use it for so much random stuff.

Heck, one time, I was mowing a field with a line of canes on the ledge with a very steep slope behind that. I couldn't quite mow the canes the way I want to, so I pulled the cable out, wrapped it around a bunch of canes and pull the canes towards the flat part of the field. Worked awesome.

Just recently, I used it to stretch the wires for a fence I put up. I've pulled stumps too. The list goes on an on.

I do have a built thread here: https://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/customization/389331-hydraulic-winch.html?highlight=

For now I am not too worried about the duty cycle as I will not be using it very often. This is for the occasional hard to get at log. I will plan on upgrading the alternator and when it needs a battery I will get bigger battery as long as it fits in there. I will post some pics when it is done. Thanks.
