It may just be my obsessive compulsive disorder, but I am bothered by TN75F oil filter being mounted upside down. I notice on cold start, the oil pressure light is on for about 4 or 5 seconds while the filter fills, whereas on warm start, it is out instantly. Do I have a check valve problem or is this a common experience with these filters being mounted the way they are?

Is the filter an OEM part, or a "will fit"? 47135703 or 84222017 are correct NH part numbers. Either should have an anti-drainback valve.

The original filter was a 47135703, but I didn't like the oil color/viscosity or the fact the filter seemed to be draining over night. The oil was black enough that I thought perhaps the filter had failed. Changed out the 15w40 and fitted a Baldwin filter, as our nearest New Holland dealer is a couple of hours away. The draining of the filter overnight seems the same, about 4 seconds for the oil light to go off on early morning start. The Baldwin is supposed to have the anti-drain feature, but is definately not the OEM filter. As the tractor is new to me, I am simply not familiar with seeing this as I haven't operated a diesel with an inverted filter. With clean oil and running it each day, starting at idle until the light goes out, I don't think it's damaging anything, but just didn't like the looks of it. I will be picking up the original filters next week, so I will fit one of those. Just wondered if this was a feature of the inverted filter, a stuck check valve in the filter base or the actual filter (although the original NH filter was the same).

I think you are tilting at windmills. A good quality oil will protect the engine's moving parts for the few seconds it takes for the OP sender to open. Bear in mind the switch opens at a preset pressure, not when the pump starts pumping.

It appears so. My neighbor felt the pressure built faster than his Chev Tahoe and said to quit 'mothering' the new tractor, but I am going to try the NH filter just to see if it makes any difference. At the very least to wind the thread up properly.

But, it's a good observation you picked up on. Never hurts to ask and keep an eye on it. Be curious of the time changes from new oil to old oil.

It turns out the Baldwin filter I was given is not a correct cross to the 47135703. The parts guy thought it would be fine to substitute since they didn't have the Baldwin B7219 that crossed to the NH. He tried to cross the NH to a FRAM filter and recognized the FRAM number was the same as a Baldwin they had in stock. What I ended up with was a Baldwin B2 that fits fine but is not the right filter. I picked up a Baldwin B7219 today and it is totally different and looks like the original New Holland. It makes you appreciate being closer to a New Holland dealer. While there was no ill intent and I still don't know if it will make a difference, it shows you how things can go wrong with cross referenced filters.

There's several hundred filters that will screw on that base and still be incorrect.

As usual, another good thread by TBN members. Having a Tn75 myself, it's been very informative.

Just an update for anyone who is interested. The Baldwin B7219 has made a significant difference with the oil light going out after about 2 seconds on a cold, overnight start. Sounds and feels better to me. It would make sense that there will be a bit lag time with this filter base design, but filters make a big difference. I never understood companies would relax the cross overs that much, it's been a humbling experience. I am going to order a bunch of NH filters to keep on hand so I don't get caught in this position again.
