1950's Ferguson 30, can someone tell me what type of fluids goes into the tractor, trans, rear end, engine etc. What type of hydraulic fluid goes into the Wagner loader? Thanks, T

The engine uses SAE 30W HD , 10W30, 10W40, or 15W40 dependent on the operating ambient temperatures. The multi weight 10W30 and 10W40can be used in over the widest ranges of temperatures, but I have found 15W40 s a little too viscous for our Montana winters so I use 10W40 in my '54 TO-30.

The tranny, rear axle and hydraulics are designed for use with GL-1 mineral oil. It's also used in the steering box. NAPA carries it or can get it. You can also use UTF(Universal Tractor Fluid),however it's has a lower viscosity and in a leaky three point hydraulic system it can leak down quickly. Do not use gear oil or hydraulic fluid.

Your Wagner loader has a separate reservior and it most likely uses regular hydralic fluid (AW 32, AW 46, etc).

Thank you for the reply. I have no idea what is in the rear end and transmission. I guess the best option would be to drain and refill. T

Drain it warm from all three sump plugs and let it drip over night before you refill. Pull the side plate off and see if thwere's a lot of sludge in the sump. If there iss , you may want to clean it out. A refill will take 6 gallons of GL-1 or UTF and you pour it in at the big plug on top the tranny.
