To ballast, or not to ballast

Using a FEL without rear ballast is like operating a one passenger teeter totter.

Really ?! I wouldn't have guessed that you have loaded tires in all 3 bx's of yours.

.... What is typically the fill material for the box? I used the rocks as I read on TBN that another guy has used this method and it worked fine. With a very full bucket I could feel the rear lighten a little, but what a remarkable difference between just the loaded tire ...

First off, paint that box Orange! Then go to yer dealer and tell him you want to order a large Kubota decal to put on yer freshly orange painted JD ballast box! Then get a few bags of concrete and 3 or 4 (or more) sections of 6" X 30" PVC pipe, stand them on end in the ballast box and fill the space around them with concrete. Ta-da! A perfect way to carry rakes, hoes, brooms and any other staright handled yard tool you need around the acerage and plenty of weight. Now unload yer tires and be good to yer lawn!
