To BH or Not to BH?

I recommend a (3) tank installation if you're pumping that distance. Septic tank, small intermediate settling tank, and pump station tank. You want that effluent as clean as possible.
Yep, that would be best. two larger tanks will work. And how about the floats and alarms for the pumping tank? Ever had the pleasure of working on a malfunctioning alarm or ejector pump inside the tank??? Definitely one of life's less pleasant tasks.
Anyway to relocate the house site closer to the field? Either way, that would equate to a lot of seat time just for the septic system. A three tank ( minimum 500 gal.each) series setup would need a hole at least 30' x 6' x 6' not allowing for grade.

Thanks to all for the info.

No way to relocate house without losing the charm of the lot or going with a 'skinny' plan which the better half will not agree to. The plan will be for a three tank system with float and alarm with a decent pump. Did not realize the hole would be that big. I wasn't really planning to dig the big hole anyway (but a man can dream, right?), just make a deal with the contractor and dig the trench - still should save me some $.

Looks like I've narrowed the choice down to the B7800 or the CK30. Both fit me nice and have dealers fairly close that took the time explain the machines. Both dealers seam to have decent service departments well stocked with parts. Looks like its down to price and performance.

The nearest NH dealer is far enough away that I can't even get there on off hours to test one. I'm thinking that this fact alone eliminates them.

I dunno, but isn't the B7800 a lighter machine? Is that a good choice for a hoe? Both are very nice machines...

I looked at the B7800 before I got my 4115 and really liked it. At the time I got a better deal on the Deere set-up. The CK series wasn't available when I was looking. If I had to do it over I would really take a close look at the Kioti CK series. As for having a BH I love it and more importantly use it a great deal.

I wasn't really planning to dig the big hole anyway Wasn't trying at all to discourage you. Just didn't want the reality of the "project" to smack you in the head after the fact. It would be doable with a smaller hoe, but at what expense? Tons of other projects to be done with a new house and site though. IMO if the money for a hoe doesn't stretch the budget too thin, it sure is a great alternative to a shovel and wheelbarrow.

I scanned the posts and did not see any discussion of soil type. I have a Kubota M6800 (good sized) and do not own a BH primarily because the soil is really rocky. I rent a larger class machine when I need one. This may not even be a factor for you but I thought it should be at least brought up.

When digging my cellar hole there were boulders big enough that a 25-ton Cat excavator could not lift up. The operator had to drag them around and slide them together with the bucket as the excavator chassis/tracks were in a controlled tip.
