Because half of us are dopey homeowners that only know how to put fuel in the machines. Anything other than that and we get to call the service dept. and hope they fix it quick. I marvel at those of you who are so mechanically gifted. If I had your skills I would certainly buy used.

I'm a pretty handy guy, there just isn't any used inventory for a cab tractor within 50 miles of Southwestern VT

I bought new because the only used units I saw were either half destroyed and not worth trailering to the dump, or they wanted full list price of a comparable new one for their used unit. Don't mind buying used if it's been well cared for, but "well cared for" does NOT mean you get new tractor price for it. Some guys need a brain enema when they dream up what their "stuff" is worth.

So I bought new.

Got exactly what I wanted, got a warranty, and even got it delivered.

Same goes for implements. At least around here, unless it's completely destroyed and unusable, it's usually list price or higher. That's fine. I'll keep buying new.

I'm going to go look at a new Kioti NX5510 Cab today, certainly curious to hop in it. My mahindra dealer, with the exceptional service is going to get back to me on adding a cab to my tractor, and quoting a trade on a 2655 HST Cab too

I looked at a 2655 and 2555, didn't really like either. Ergonomics were off from the seat (especially the loader joystick), and I didn't care for the thin membrane switches. 2655 seat wouldn't go back as far as the older 2555. Overall, fit/finish didn't look as good as NX series (keep in mind that the 25 and 26 series are TYM tractors with Mahindra engines). But to each their own..... Like you said, hop in it and let your butt decide which is right for you.

Really liked the NX5510 HST, but man the dealership just doesn't want to budge on pricing at all. $36,500 with the "free loader" cash price....

The 12 volt heater mentioned won't cut it. Too much current draw, too little heat. A small self contained coolant type heater is the way to go.

yeah those 12v heater wont do anything unless your talking about 40-50 degree temps, anything less than that you are wasting time

Love this. I looked for three months for a tractor and initially looked at used, and much like you I found the same thing. New used as in anything within 5 years of being new pricing was crazy, found machines priced at, above and so close to new it made no sense. Found one machine two years old that was 5k more than new. The only machines around here worth getting used at least price was was machines 10 years old or so, even then on most of those putting 5k more into would have meant new. Now implements i kind of see where your going, but I did find some good deals on those, but not a lot. Only implements you usually can find is the new used that guy used once and wants his money back or the implement thats scrap.

I really dont know if any of these used machines move, from a buying aspect truly not a good deal on most of it.

What puzzles me is why buying used tractors is not more popular? The money saved on the first purchase more than pays for any tool I'd ever want. And simply replacing old parts with new ones and doing it all at once is way easier than the whole negative of fixing broken parts would be. The trick is to replace a lot of used parts up front when they look worn & before they fail.
It used to be called "preventative maintenance".

For me it is the easy loan availability. I can buy a new tractor with 0% interest and no money down. I can afford the monthly payment just have to conserve my cash.

Tradasaurus, I suspect that same financial reason you give is the most important reason for a lot of us.
It seems that the manufacturers have figured that out, whether it is houses, education, vacations, cars, tools, or tractors.

The good is that we can enjoy these things NOW. The bad is that we lose the "I can do it myself" attitude along with that experience and education.
Maybe we also give up a bit of our freedom too, although that's harder to say.

One really good thing about financing new things is that today we can always bail out and switch over to the world of used equipment and the "do it myself" way of doing things.
Nobody is forcing us into a single track. To me that's a major improvement in choices that's available today and didn't use to be.

The choices are available now because option of easy financing didn't use to exist before a couple of decades ago. For many, credit just wasn't available.
Back then financing was so tight that it forced a lot of people to skip on education and learn to fix used things just because there wasn't any other choice.
Now there is a choice, and that's good.....
