I would bite the bullet and get a gas bottle. And all the guys that keep saying they buy 2 pound rolls. A 10 or 11 pound roll in a welding supply store cost the same as a 2 pounder at the box store

Yes I think that is the way to go as well. Now the million dollar question is who makes a unit with the best "bang for the buck" capable of occasional use welding steel up to say 3/8" thick ? I wonder what a good, solid, DC MIG welder with tank runs for esp one that does not have a lot of extra or fancy features that I cannot afford?

Low end.... HOBART... Economy line to Miller...

For 3/8, probably the 210MVP or Ironman 230....

I have Hobart Handler 140 and it is ok up to about 1/4 inch, beyond that some preheat and multiple passes.... And If I knew then what I know now about MIG welding I would have gone minimally for the 210MPV...

As for wire spools 2 pound vs 11 pound, I use so little I would rather have a 2 pound spool lost to rust/corrosion from sitting in poor environment then lose a 11 pound roll from just sitting...

Hi Dale. Super ! Excellent info and I thank you. I will check them both out. I do have 220 VAC available, same outlet I use for my AC buzz box stick welder (which BTW I am ready to convert over to DC after I found some lunker stud diodes in my junk box).
