Hello all,

I've been reading TBN intensely for a week or 2. So much info... Anyway. I have almost pulled the trigger on a new L39. Waiting for the dealer to get back to me on loan etc... Here's what we discussed yesterday.

$34,150
Includes 24 inch BH Bucket, and front remote hyd for grapple + delivery (1 1/2drive)
- 750.00 instant rebate
$33,400 Total

If they will throw in an additional 12" BH Bucket, a Loader bolt on tooth bar, Stabilzer pads, and a quick coupler for the grapple hyd connection I will pull the trigger.

I have put in a PM to Joe at Millonzi's about the 48" LD grapple.

If think some of you with L39's have them but can't remember who. Just want to make sure this is a good fit for the capability of the machine? Way in if you would.

Any other advise to consider would also be appreciated?

Thanks.

IMHO, You are asking for an awful lot of expensive extra's to be thrown in,, 12" bucket is around 800. by its self, tooth bar about 225. and pads around 100. The quick coupler ads another 3-400 into the mix.

I guess that may be a little much. Didn't realize those items were that expensive. Maybe I can get 2 of the 4?

From what Ive noticed, seeing that you already have a bit more than stock in the description, I would ask for the pads or the toothbar. I think that 33k is the norm for a stock L39, and your getting the front remote and free delivery (not free in all areas mind you), Thats not bad if your still at 33k. Im not sure if the 24" bucket is standard on the L39, so I won't count that, but if its not, there is a big bonus to your side. I would personally try for the two cheapest things, or ditch the three and just pursue one, like the toothbar or the coupler thingy. I really don't see the bucket happening, and I REALLY dont see it all happening.

Its kinda like buying a new truck, even tho mine wasn't new ('05 in '06). I asked for new liquids (even thou they were new already), rotation on the tires, re clean the cab, a bed mat, a tonneau, and a hitch. They wouldn't give me the tonneau or the mat, but they did the rest because it was cheap for them, and they get the hitches in bulk from the supplier, so a hitch that costs me like 130 costs them about 45 bucks. A good dealer will work with you a bit, but you can't expect them to bend over backwards for a sale, especially on a popular unit like the L39. I knew I wasn't gonna get all 3, but a buddy of mine got a tonneau and the mat for his, so I took a gamble. Do note, all of my extra requests dont even total what a toothbar costs, so your mileage will very...

He just called. The coupler he said I needed was just $15-20. I haven't heard back from the grapple dealer yet so I'm not sure what I really will need but that's a big difference from what LarryRB indicated I needed. I may not be describing things correctly. I'm a raw rookie in the Hydrolic's world.

I asked if he could do the 12 inch QA bucket, Toothbar, and stabilizer pads. He said he'd have to check on it and get back to me. He was checking with some suppliers. He sounded optomistic so I'll just have to wait and see. I like the dealer so I'm hopeful. I don't think I'm asking to much based on some other dealers and L39 owners I've talked to.

well, it sounds like you got a "good" salesman. Hes going to go the extra mile contacting his guys, so, you can bet you will get some things. I based my stuff off the prices whats his name said. If it is really a few extra bucks, you will probably get some things, but I know the bucket is still a far stretch, tho.

remember to post pics when your unit comes in!

Just curious why the stabilizer pads? Do you plan a lot of work on concrete? Sounds like a pretty good deal to me even if the extras do not come through. With the front hydraulics, the QA on the backhoe and the 24” bucket all ready added as up grades to the base configuration, that is a great price.

I have an asphalt drive and a 48 yard concrete slab between garages. Need to do some retaining wall work that will put me on them. This brings up another concern I have about the weight of the L39 and the forces of the FEL and BH use while the tractor is on 4" concrete. I thought about doing 6" at the time and wish I did now but it's expensive. Don't want to crack it. May post a thread on the topic at some point.

About 7000lbs (without without filled tires).

Yekrut,

It's a terrific extras request, and you'll walk away having no "what if I asked..." regrets.

Enjoy!

QA backhoe bucket ...

[1] Which is the most desirable for maximum versatility: the 12" or the 24"?

There are several things to consider, one being that the internet is hard to work with for any certainty of constants, and some reading will always have other variables of their preference (not counting the thread-jackers :D ).

At 7K lbs. figure your friend or neighbor pulling into your drive with a GMC 2500HD diesel burner. Mine goes right at 7800 lbs. With this perspective, you may have not given it another thought. :)

I would like to think that the 4" slab had adequate rebar (properly placed) to reinforce the slab.

Regardless, (4k) concrete will acquire about 8 - 11k lbs of compressive strength after 60 days or more of hydration (depending on the batch mix). Short of the long is that when you ordered the mix, likely you ask for 4000 lb mix. That should indeed support the tractor without cracking from that load, seeing that the weight is distributed over an area from all four wheels (weight distribution).

Something that I look at when considering an after-thought concern (in your case) is that the subsurface was prepped well with compaction, basically saying that an edge or corner would be my place to consider a (subsurface) weak spot of rolling onto the surface.

The FEL should not be an exertive foce but an additional weight. Use of the backhoe (while the machine is on the slab  may be another issue) will indeed be an additional exertive force that will vary with what you are doing. I am inclined to not place anything on the concrete other than weight. Adding an externally induced force to the concrete is another aspect (by way of the BH).

All said and done, in my opinion you're probably going to be OK rolling up onto the 4" slab with the machine, FEL, and BH.

Concrete

Always place concrete, never pour it (at zero slump). :D

crbr,

Thanks for the information. Kinda what I was thinking but it's nice to ear it from someone else whocan complete the perspective.

Anytime. I am not looking to be a know-it-all, but I did go to undergrad school as a CE. No big deal but indeed, concrete intrigues me as something we see and use each and every day.
