To Load or Not to Load

lots of good advice above.

Load your tires unless you are primarily lawnmowing. And many do it even then. Don't use CaCL - rots rims. And even in tubes, if you have a leak you now have an issue I've read here.

I think the b3030 in particular needs to be loaded - its overpowered for its weight, and has a high center of gravity.

You will find, btw, that you need both loaded tires and 3pt weight to do heavy FEL work. Instead of a ballast box, I use a box blade - much more generally useful, and still weighs a lot.

Load the tires with rim guard.

I have the B2620 w/FEL and MMM. I use it mostly for mowing and started without loading the tires. Spun the tires too many times. That really rips the sod up so you have to reseed. After adding the rim guard, 460#'s, no more spinning and they do not make a mark on the turf. However, the front tires will tear the sod in a real tight turn even in 2wd, so be careful on your turns.

The 460 #'s was enough for loader work on top soil and road gravel. That is on level ground, if you are on hills then you may need extra ballast. :)

Not having to carry the extra weight on the tractor itself seems like a good idea.

That's a good point point and one that I hadn't thought of. My B7800 rear tires are loaded with RimGuard. My forest and land is in the mountains and very rocky. I am sure that having the Rim Guard in the tires has saved my butt more then once:)

The big advantage of loaded tires vs. ballast box is that it keeps the weight as low as possible - and where it is most needed.
