To Mahindra or Not to Mahindra

Heavy_red,

I'm looking at Mahindra and Branson (around 45 hp 4wd FEL). When you did your review of makes and chose the Mahindra, did you check out Branson. If yes, what made Mahindra the choice for you?

I was brought up thinking that "JDGreen" was the only color a tractor came in since my father was the JD dealer. My father sold the dealership and retired 30 years ago. My only experience with a "tractor" up till a year ago was with garden tractors and it was always JD, even then. Suddenly I needed a real tractor and went to the local JD dealer and was disappointed walking away knowing that what I wanted was not what I could afford. A few weeks later I drove through a town in northern Illinois and passed a fledgling Mahindra dealership and saw this sweet looking 4500, fwd, fel, and stopped to inquire about it. Up to then, I never heard of Mahindra. The price was excellent, 0% financing, 3 year bumper to bumper warranty so to speak. I did a little behind the scene research on Mahindra and found that they were setting up facilities in the U.S., they were the #1 seller of tractors in the U.S. under 65 horsepower, and they were actively setting up dealerships in the U.S. I bought the tractor 2 weeks later and the dealer delivered it to my site 210 miles away at no cost. I bought a Wood's 720 brush cutter at the same time.

I've run this tractor ever since with having only one problem with a stupid fuel cap. It has had it's belly in mud pulling logs out of a swamp and didn't get stuck. The fwd is awesome! It has the horsepower whenever I needed it, it has never let me down.

A long story to get to my point. A tractor is a lifelong investment in my book. I will buy a new one (Mahindra again)when this one dies. I would suggest buying more horepower than what you think you need. I suggest getting fwd even if you think you don't need it now. For the initial cost it is worth the investment in my book. The financing and warranty should show you that Mahindra is serious in their product. I could care less in what the resale value is because I'm not selling mine. If you're looking at resale value, don't waste your time buying a tractor - obviously you're not certain you even need one.

If I didn't already own a Mahindra, you would make me want one!

I purchased a Mahindra 5500 4WD FEL about 2 months ago. This is my first tractor personally. I couldn't be happier. It has great power, a powerful bucket and I find the controls very easy to use.

I had a good bit of seat time on a Kubota Hydrostatic drive before and thought it was the best, but after just a little practice, I find my Mahindra with a shuttle shifter jsut as easy or better.

I grew up only knowing "green" paint and no other color. When I decided to buy a tractor for myself, I thought I'd only have green. Well, to much surprise I was at our local fair and noticed a new Mahindra dealer who had some models he was exhibiting and I decided to take a look as he only lives about 7 miles from my place. To tell you the truth, I was really impressed. I decided to try one out and did my homework and couldn't find anything wrong with it and to my amazement I was truly impressed (especially with the price.)

I bought a 6500 FWD with FEL back in March and have been very happy with it ever since. I have done things with this tractor I have never done with a tractor before and I'm having a blast. I would for sure never be without my FWD ever again. It has saved me more times than not and especially in the steep hills that I have. My father had a 4020 that I use to borrow a lot and it wouldn't handle the 7' cutter as well as my 6500 does. To make a long story short, I think that you would truly love a Mahindra if you had one as they are one fine built machine.

I bought a 3505 from Bill's Tractor (the Liberty Hill branch) on July 31st. I bought it with the front end loader, box blade, 5' shredder, and a post-hole digger. I have used all of my attachments since buying the tractor (put about 10 hours or so on it). Most recently, I used the 3505 to plant some trees on my property. It seems to be a very solid tractor. I live in Coupland, TX (not far from RR). You are welcome to come out to my farm to try the tractor for yourself (I'll even let you shred the whole 10 acres if you want /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif).
