Think I will vent from the delivery side of things .Why do customers rush out ...try to get there mail or package (dogs going nuts )open the door and YELL get back here...to the dog while its trying to bite you.We need a few seconds before you open the door.
I get mad at the morons who cant control there pets, not the dogs ..there just following instincs. I like animals and feel bad when a idiot lets it loose on me ....and its gets hurt.
I DONT WANT TO CRAK A DOG IN THE HEAD WITH A BLUNT FORCE.Keep them inside until we leave.Small and medium size dogs are of no threat .....but the pit bulls, sheperds ,large breeds .............do damage

( If I put a cold bottle of lemonade in the mail box for the rural carrier that we have, I would be turned into the Postal Inspectors for not putting postage on the bottle. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif )

Yeah we would get a fine around here also. It's funny how I had to pay for and install the mail box but the post office owns it? They don't even maintain it.

The P.O. doesn't own your mail box, but they do own the lock on your mail box, if it is one of the new square jobs. They do control what can be put into it also. If you move, you are free to take it with you, after you have them remove the lock. Federal law prohibits anyone from putting anything into it unless it has a stamp on it first. The mail box is considered part of the the postal system. If someone messes with your mail box, it is a Federal offense. It is unlikely that the Postal Inspectors (P.O. Police) will do much to help prosecute vandals, but if they did, there would be a lot less mail box baseball. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

We have had the mailbox baseball problem here too. Your right not much gets done about it. I counted over 100 boxes that got smacked over a period of 3-4 weeks, postal inspectors figured it was kids so they said to let the local police handle it. After they caught 3 of the high school kids the kids admitted to smashing 25, they were suppose to write a letter of apology and pay $5.00 a piece for the regular size boxes. Our postmaster had 2 of the boxes smashed and only got $5.00 total and only 2 of the letters. I wished I could have talked to the judge and asked him what would have been wrong with having them go out and do the work to replace all 100 boxes. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif If they had to have gave up their wrestling practices to do it maybe they would think twice about destroying other peoples property.

I also have 2 shepherd type dogs on the route that are the most mellow dogs I've ever seen, and then the other day I had a dog that tried to bite my heels but he was so small I don't think his mouth could fit around my little finger. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have had 3 dog bites in my life.... the first was breaking up a dog fight... I was the looser with some teeth marks in my hand. Learned quick that you don't get between two dogs fighting. The second was at work.. got bit by a dog and ignored the wound.... wound up spending 3 months in the hospital for IV treatment for the infection.... the 3rd was a big dog that I had gone over to pet.... guess that he didn't want me to stop petting him. As I was walking away, he lunged and that bite took 150 +- stitches to close the wound. Now I don't go near any dogs that I don't know...... big, small, or anything in between. I love dogs..... my own... all the rest, I tolerate, unless I know for certain that they are social...

When I was a kid the base ball bat mail box game happened in our rural community and no one seemed successful at catching the offenders. Then a guy on our road filled his mail box with cement. This resulted in a broken bat and a fractured arm.

You probably would be sued today for handling it this way.

How long did it take for your arm to heal?????? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Lisa, when I was a carrier walking a route I was threatened by several dogs, but always kept facing them and was never bitten until one day, one of those little dogs that might have weighed 5 pounds was running in circles around me yapping his head off and the owner was standing on the porch, yelling and screaming at the little dog, which just ignored her. And I just ignored the little dog, until he ran in behind me and bit me on the ankle; didn't break the skin but did smart a bit and I swung that big leather mailbag at him. The lady said, "Oh, he makes me so mad sometimes I could just kill him!" and I replied, "If I catch him first, I'm gonna beat you to it." /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I never saw that little dog loose in the yard again. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
