Tough to tell which is which - the compression took it's toll on the pictures. It's a shame the dealer apparently took the attitude that he did. He should have offered to do the repair - these guys don't know the business they lose by actions like this.

As an aside, my brother has a small machine sales and repair shop in Florida. He contracts with the local HD to do repairs on some of their products. I wonder if the HD would have backed up the product... seems like it should be Deere, but HD might. Either way I guess it doesn't matter since you know are the proud owner of 2 tanks... oh well.

Yeh, sorry about the bad pictures. Trying to make them small did the damage....

This is the defective tank. If you looked at and the new one, the new one looks a little brighter since the plastic has never seen the light of day. Otherwise you could not tell the difference......
except for the fact that one leaks gas ....

My exeperince is HD will not support their products. Like I said they do not even carry the airfilter or spark plug for this machine anymore.

Phred... I took a little heat for my reply in a similar post, but here goes.... I too would be disappointed in JD as it is a manufacturer's product... to me it doesn't matter where you bought it, that dealership is still a representative of the manufacturer. JD has obvioulsy made a conscious decision to also market thier products through Big Box stores. People are always touting how good the JD dealer support is, but I read as much bad as I do good. I like the convenience of these Big Box stores, especially on the weekends.

Poncho,

I hear you, and they should support it. But they don't / will not.
I was close to going back to the same store and buying a riding john deere mower. That is clearly no going to happen now.

If I am going to get muarry quality in these JD products why is it I am going to pay a couple hunderd extra than the muarry?

The engine on this machine is a B&S, and so maybe JD's argument would be that it's B&S's fault. But to my way of thinking JD approved that design for use in their product and must have some quality control on the products it receives from B&S.

Phred,
Why would you purchase a Deere product from Home Depot when you know that there would not be the support there that a full service dealer would give? Why are you not trashing Home Depot? HD is the company that made the largest profit. The JD dealer would fix it but realize he made no profit from the initial sale. You have not given us enough information on the purchase date so we can not make a determination of warranty or not. Also as you addressed B&S might be the company responsible for the warranty. All this trash about JD over a $25 part. What if HD damaged the tank in transport or assembly? New Holland has not made a profit in 5 years. If NH goes broke do we blame Phred since he would not purchase a NH lawnmower? I think you have over reacted!

CCI... don't bang on the customer because he bought the Deere product from an AUTHORIZED dealer... so what if they don't have a service department... does that give the JD dealer the right to charge astronomical prices to drive business into their showroom base on "dealer supprt"? It's not like he bought a JD product from the black market/underground. You are automatically dismissing the dealership from support of a JD product because they didn't sell it. This shouldn't be any different than when you buy a vehicle from one dealership and have warranty work somewhere else. JD should support any product manufactered by the manufacturer. I would expect this with any product/manufacterer.

Mark,

I agree wth poncho in the fact that HD was authorized by Deere to sell their product and apparently not service them. I say not service them since HD does not have a service department.

Your position is that its not worth the dealer's time to fix it since he did not make a profit on the intial sell.
Well I think that's pretty sorry thinking. Deere refered me to this dealer to fix the problem and would have paid the dealer to do the work. It would not have come out of his pocket. Now maybe its not the same on his priority scale as selling a 100 HP tractor, but blowing me off was not smart business. Why p*&^ off the customer over a few bucks?

As far as the date goes...... I gave them the full serial number. It's rocket science to look it up from the serial number? That is pretty hard to bieleve.

Bottom line IMHO is the dealer dropped the ball and it will cost him my business long term.
And I am just as hard on HD. I will not buy another deere from them either.

As far as over reacting goes....... like I said If I just bought another honda I could have probably had 10 more years of service and avoid hours of agravation.

On edit: When I spoke with the dealer on the phone if they had just told me that they could not help me or that they could not look up the date that would have been better then leaving me feeling like I got scr$%d. And yes its just a few bucks but the driving and principle tick me off.
