Re: Today\'s newbie question - Horsepower

Great post grandad.I feel weight is one of the most important features for me.I do a little logging with mine and alot of cordwood trailer towing.Going down even a somewhat steep hill on my farmall 200 (almost straight down) I would notice the uphill tire not spinning.Once I filled the tires it was much better.4 wd is a big plus on hills for slowing you down.A friend of mine has a steep hay field that when we hay it with 2wd it was scary, but 4wd was a piece of cake.Hp is much more important on pto work.
A diesel is much more economical to run both maitenance and fuel wise. They also are more apt to plow through what ever job you ask of it.We have hooked up two tractors of the same hp to a baler and you could hear the baler drag the gas motor down but the diesel just hummed along nice and steady.I am not sure but would guess a diesel has a flatter torque cuve. They seem to be able to deliver power better through the entire rpm range.Maybe someone could comment on that for me?
