Ann Landers had a story about 30 years ago that was the same...

A few days later she got inundated with mail from women who said they would take a little dirt on the hands from an honest days work than "Clean" hands from someone that lied, cheated and of low morals.

Maybe I'm prissy, but dirty fingernails on men or women makes a poor impression on me, especially when people keep their nails on the long side. It's just something that will always catch my eye.

I may have some stains here and there on my hands for one or two days if I get into old grease on something. Since I can't stand feeling my nails touch stuff, I keep mine trimmed to nubbins. That makes nail cleaning easier and a ripped nail less likely, but it can also make it hard to pick up thin items from a hard surface.

Some people rub Vaseline into their hands before getting them dirty. It is supposed to make cleaning easier.

I keep my nails short (I prefer not to break them) but even so, getting moly grease residue out can be extremely difficult. Carbon rich oily residue is the same. Another tough one is the gasket sealing compound which is extremely resistant to solvents and on which detergent makes no impression whatsoever.

I spent a few years working on a Synthol refinery which turned NG into what they called a "light oil", it was the blackest smelliest stuff I have ever seen. The coveralls went in the trash on a daily basis, there was no way you could get that stuff out in a safe manner.

. My live in GF NEVER worries about such stupid and meaningless things like me having spotless, lily white, perfectly manicured hands. .

Usually means they have another BF.

Always good to have advice on how to take care of my nails on a tractor forum. Maybe a new forum needs to be added to TBN. "Beauty Care" for farmers.

I knew a farmer whose off farm job was in a supermarket as a butcher/meat cutter. He used to joke with his friends that mixing hamburger was the greatest for getting that hard to get dark dirt out of the crevises on your hands. I didn't shop there.

Some women don't like men with dirt under their fingernails, just like we have certain things we don't want in the woman we spend time with.
If she complains about that I'm sure there are other things she finds fault with as well.

Grease and dirt under nails and on hands is not hard to clean off if you keep a gallon jug of Orange cleaner with a pump and a small scrub brush next to your wash sink. The Orange cleaners from HF work just as good at the name brand stuff too. Also keeping your nails cut short makes them easier to clean.
