Today's oil filters

I'd even go with the good oil advances too.

Got to be something better than starting a cold engine on 40w straight oil if you farmed in texas, and needed the 40w when hot and hard. but in the mornings there had to be accelerated wear.

pop over to a modern 15w40 and big change.

Not to mention there are plenty of stories of peole using self-recycled oil int heir tractors. IE.. draint he oil out of the car and run that inthe tractor.

poor things just got no love.. :)

Given that everything was carb'd back when, that would have been pretty beat oil going into the tractor.

Buddy of my Dad's used to do that, with an old truck he kept at his cottage. With how cheap oil was back then.... never made sense to me.

yup. carbed engine. See people put a clothespin on the choke to hold it ipen when cold to richen it a bit for a while.

remember the service stations that sold FILTERED oil.. :) IE.. waste oil pumped thru a filter. :)

no wonder a car int he 50-60-70's was worn out at 100K miles.. or needed an engine rebuild at 75K :)

Up here, back when, I remember a line of bottled oil that was recycled - never used it. I guess people bought if for leakers, or soon-to-die motors. That must have been a local thing down your way..... would have been interesting to see a UOA on that "filtered" stuff..... Negative TBN ?

NextGen that stuff was not !

Gulf Sapphire?

Not sure who the refiner was back then, but that was a housebrand - Canadian Tire Nugold. Later years they tended to buy from Shell, sometimes Exxon for other oils.
