Got some more easy to get wood. Neighbors buddy had good sized oak taken down by the road commission. My neighbor took pretty much all the stuff less than 20" Diameter and left me all the big stuff. break.

This Pile is about 7 feet tall at the peak and about 14 feet long. Most of the wood is between 8 and 16 feet in length. I'll be busy over the Christmas :D

Nice, Dave!

How long is the bar on that big saw?

Thanks,
36" Mounted on a MS660, Neighbor said i needed the big bar for the wood he left. I could have gotten buy with the 25" bar on most of wood only a few pieces actually needed it. Other saw in the case is a MS361 with 20" Bar. No one makes a case that i've found for Stihl's two most expensive saws on the market. Same is true for the big Husky saws. They'll sell you a protective case for a disposable $200 saw but they won't make one for a $1200 - $2000 saw.

I have noticed that too.

Howdy Roger, I Actually emailed Stihl when i bought the saw and asked them why they would not provide a case they for the most expensive saws they sell. The B.S. canned answer was that their market research showed there was not a customer base of people to buy them, and that the volume would be low and they would have to charge to much for them. I responded to them and said you'd think with the customer spending over a $1000 you'd include the $15 plastic box included with purchase of sale instead of screwing the customer. I don't recall getting a response

Seems strange to most, but many of the loggers who usually buy the big saws would not be caught dead with a protective case.

Funny you say this and I believe it. However, I won't be caught without the case on my little MS270. Unless it's secured or in my hands, the saw is in it's case.

I too believe these cases can't be more than $15.00. I am shocked if you were to buy them they charge $50 or so. I think some dealers throw the case in with

purchase. I would think a saw of triple the value or more would have a case for such an investment.

It's all I can do to put the chain/bar guard on my saw when not in use ... I typically just bungee it to the back of the tractor and drive it around that way. If it's not bungee'd there, it's sitting on its' shelf in the barn. I think if I didn't use it much, and it sat in the barn collecting dust, and getting stacked in/on/around other things, then a case would be a good spot for it. And, I suppose if you were transporting it in the back of a truck or something, a case would help keep it safe from the bouncing around...

Today's seat time for me only included bringing in firewood from the pile, and I didn't get any pics today. This one pertains to preparing the firewood though:

Agree Mr TSO, but being the chain is bathed in oil and will act as a magnet to dust and other airborne particles For instance if grinding near by, the metal shavings in the air will attach to the saws oil. Anything to protect it is worth it. Also having the case will collect oil at the bottom if it's not run out of fluid. this prevents a possible mess on a shelf etc. Obviously I don't have your barn set up so all my magic happens in the garage where the saw is exposed to any project occurring.

As for transporting, I think this is a no brainer having a case. Wether thrown in the back of a truck, bucket of the tractor etc. It protects the investment. Also, I like the fact I keep my hand chain sharpener, multiple tool and gloves ( yes, I use one particular pair all the time when cutting. I like the velcro around the wrist as it keeps annoying chips out) in the case. When I grab the case, I know I have what I need.

I don't have cases for any of my saws but it would not be a bad thing to have. I remember a while back they were giving cases with every MS290.
