Sorry for your loss, he was lucky to have a son like you. I had a hard time keeping a dry eye while reading your story. Wifey and I both agree, it was a fitting ceremony, and the right thing to do. Again, our condolences.

Greg, your tribute was touching and glad you had the chance to handle this in such a loving manner.
Very sorry for your loss.

The burial would be considered "green" in many areas, a growing trend to avoid the marketing from funeral homes.

Thanks to you, and to all, for your condolences.

Daugen, yes, a 'Green Burial' is the catch phrase they use these days, and I try to avoid the use of catch phrses when possible... Dad's intrest in going this route was more philosophical-based, and many years of environmental activism, and strong feelings of being a good steward of the earth... he has spent the last 10+ years fighting the 'big money ' that comes with shale gas drilling, pushing for responsible operations of all aspects of the process, from the trucking and heavy traffic issues on small country roads, to the effects on surface and ground water the local wildlife and people depend on, to the air and noise pollution from compressor stations that will roar away for years to come, pushing the gas extracted by the wells to the processing plants.

Dad has gone so far as to install a solar panel array and grid-tied inverter system, and just a few months ago, bought a full electric powered car, charged from his solar panels.

Many years ago, about 1988, I recall his efforts to curb the importing of out-of-state garbage to our local landfill. The local owner sold out to a NYC corporation, and the influx of trash multiplied over night. Dad, and a group of others, worked hard to get some limits enstated, and pertinent rules made and enforced. He spent many years as a board member of our county Solid Waste Authority.

His efforts and influence on many people is evident by outpouring of recognition by so many people these past few days. Many, including me, will miss him, in so many ways.

Condolences to you and your family, Greg. Sounds like a wonderful ceremony.

When my Mother died in 2011, she wanted to be cremated, and was. Our family decided we would bury her ashes with my Father, who'd died 22 years earlier. The small community cemetery allowed us to open and close the grave, and have our own ceremony. I was the only male in the family in decent enough shape to dig with a shovel, so I had the honor of burying my Mother. It was both hard and wonderful all at the same time. I think more people should do that. There is something in it that mere words fail to express.

My father in law passed away the day before Christmas. My wife knew he was close and organized a big birthday party for him in October where all the California family attended. So that is the last family memory, a very happy one. He was 98.

Today, clearing light forest for a new generator shed.

Its been a long while. First time using the saws since last July. i was diagnosed with stage 4 squamous cell carcinoma at the base of my tongue on August 9th. Never touched tobacco and was negative for HPV-16. It's been a rough journey very difficult having a 9 year old daughter and not sure your going to be there for her. August 21st i went under for 16 hours 10 hours on my mouth and 6 on my neck removing 76 lymph nodes and 50% of my tongue. The entire left half from tip to a ways down my throat. Spent a total of 12 days in the hospital. Lost 25 lbs in 9 days and another 25 through chemotherapy and radiation. My pet scan was clean in February but a mysterious mass showed up on an MRI a few weeks later i had done trying to find nerve damage and pain on the left side of my body going down my shoulder. They were unable to locate the mass with an ultrasound to do a biopsy i had a ct scan on Friday waiting for the results.

It felt great to get out and help a friend cut down a oak that was leaning over his house. We used his MF with 75 feet of cable and some chains to ensure it fell away from the houseIMG_20190331_211124.jpeg20190331_154800.jpeg20190331_164500.jpeg20190331_142047.jpeg

Wow, Dave/Xring... hang in there and get better.

I got a little seat time on my tractor yesterday and today, been removing old fence, in preparation for new fence. Taking out whats left of 30 year old 4 row barb wire, around the edge of our fields that border the highway. After the fence was out, smoothed up some humps with the box blade where new fence will go. Today, I dropped a few locust trees, probly get about 15 posts out of them, once they get cut up. Sorry, no pictures.

And this was how i finished my friday afternoon definently not the fun part of ownership. But I'm good for a few more years my wallet is $475 lighter now after changing the hydraulic oil. I dont want to buy TSC oil as the UDT2 is at least semi synthetic and my gear box is a real pain to shift when the temperature's get below freezing. I have to run it at a high idle for 15 minutes or so just to get it to start to warm up. I considered putting in a hydraulic warmer. Crawling under it i realized i never painted my added skid plates.20190316_120421.jpeg20190329_185829.jpeg20190329_185751.jpegIMG_20190329_203610.jpeg
