I am thinking of removing my horn button and replacing with a toggle switch that will power added roll bar lights and a back facing utility light. I need the toggle swtich to have off, on (front facing lights), on (back light) and both (both front and backup). The usual googling for a 4 position toggle switch is coming up empty. Does such a switch exist? Am I using the wrong search term?

You may find a 4 way pull switch instead of a toggle,

Scotty,

Its no biggy just use a std 12v double pole double throw switch. Wire the B+ in the middle and the lights to the outer terminals and ground the lights somewhere by them. Just make sure the switch has a detent middle position or neutral position in other words.

http://shop.vetcosurplus.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=8773 quick search an example for you.

on-off-on dpdt

No biggie for you maybe...LOL....but for me...thats another story.:laughing:

Am I right that a double throw will have two on's and one off? I need three ons and one off...

On 1 - Front lights
On 2 - Back light
On 3 - Front and Back lights

Yes you are correct a dpdt would only have 2 ons sorry I read things wrong been doing that a lot here lately.

I am now thinking along the lines of and I dont have an example handy but a rotary switch is the first think to come to mind I will ponder this awhile and get back to ya.....

Another possibility is something like this which is already wired to do what you want (off/on1/on2/on1&2). I have one in a lamp. You might try to find something with some moisture resistance though.

That is exactly the switch I need. Two problems... they are like $60 bucks and they are not being produced anymore...only special runs according to cole hersee.

Think I will just use a single on off for the front lights and a seperate switch located on the fender or similiar for the back light
