Well, I did a similar thing with my B7800 and put a small ding in the front of my hood. It bothered me so much I bought another hood and plastic part for over $350. It was worth it to me.
My B7800 old hood is very nice and if you do the right things and can afford it, buy a new one. If not, I'll sell my dinged hood for $25 if you are near Columbus and I don't have to drive very far to meet. Hood has 10 hours on it and is mint other than the small and easily repairable ding. Photo available.
Best choice is buy the dealer's hood for $150. You need decals too for another $50? or so but I forget that price
