Well I want to thank all parties for all of their suggestions, encouragement and cautions. After Darren's research I contacted the original dealer. He was instantly familiar with the tractor. Seems a guy bought it through a leasing company. The Leasing company did not pay the dealer in full ($2000 short) so the dealer refused to release the tractor. The leasing company started billing the buyer and the buyer refused to pay. Everyone sued each other and eventually the leasing company went out of business. Their assets were bought by a capital finance company. The capital finance company paid the balance to the dealer and auctioned the tractor. The car dealer bought the tractor from the capital finance company at auction along with a bunch of cars because he knew someone who wanted the tractor. The "someone" backed out so the car dealer advertised the tractor. I called him, then asked a local dealer to check it out. It checked out perfect and the local dealer bought it from the car salesman and is going to sell it to me directly. As if that wasn't good enough he said: "I'll put it on a truck and when it get's there if you like it send me a check... if you don't just send it back." I'll identify the dealer with his approval in a day or two but he has been great.

The only problem now is that the damage that this does to the old saying: If it sounds too good to be true.........."

Thanks again to everyone who has helped.

Just to let you know it does happen , before I bought my tractor (sorry it is one of them green ones........) I was trying every way possible to get something to do the work I needed done ... well one day I was visiting a friend and on the way home I spoted a lawn tractor on the front lawn of this house with a sign FREE....... I stopped and asked about it ... Well the only person I could talk to was an old women that did not know anything about it but said her son-in-law would be back soon ... ask him , Well I left my name and # , ( yes I left the sign on the tractor )and when to get help to move it just in case it was true ,,,
Got back , ..yup... tractor gone SIL just got back , it seems he bought a NEW tractor and had no room in the garage for two so out it went .... granted it was a 2 year old Craftsmen with not a thing wrong with it , ....he bought the next bigger size up ........
Just got to love people with more money than they know what to do with ..........

Good Luck with your new tractor I wish you the best and happy tractoring ,
Bill G.

Too good to be true? Nope!

Well this thread, started so many months ago, closes with the happiest of endings. The 1998 Kubota L35 TLB that was reported to have 4 hrs on it and to be available for $24,000 with a brand new warranty.... Turned out to be just as advertised. What a great journey this process was. I got help from people I've never met, who had no incentive to help other than their good nature. Not the least of these are the folks on this site that gave me great advice. Also please allow me to thank Jack Perrin of Perrin Farm Equipment in Tifton GA. He busted hump for me, confirming that this was in fact a new rig, arranging for warranty to be reissued, and arranging delivery. I couldn't be happier. I have a couple of 11" maple stumps under my belt, a growing collection of implements, and a whole lot of fun to look forward to.

Thanks to all
