Buying Advice Too may hours?

Thanks, all, for your informed and informative responses. I've just found out that the tractor does not have the valve kit for a FEL, which kind of eliminates it for me, as I understand the kit is no longer available. We live in the Macon, GA area and have about 5 rolling acres to maintain. We've just relocated and our 25+ year-old Honda riding mower is a little out of its depth. Would not plan to do any snow removal as Macon almost never gets more than an inch or two at a time. Just want to mow the lawn and shift a little dirt around, filling stump holes and the like.

After all the back and forth bantering, my only concern is how it was maintained, not the meter hours. I just bought another M series kubota with 3500 on the meter with maintenance records and had no qualms. Kubota diesel, if maintained properly run trouble free for many thousands of hours. Great engine and great transmission as well. How it was cared for is the key.

This again?

I thought you had finally got past all this.

If you find it "difficult" or "impossible", to post, then just DON'T.

Try it. Just don't. The internet will live on despite it.

Most of your ramble is pure hogwash. You have no idea what the poster's soil type is. Even if they list their "location" as you frequently demand. Soil types change in just a few miles or less. If I tell you my location, do you really think you have any idea what my soil type is? You're deluding yourself. My buddy's place is not quite a mile from mine. His soil type is nothing like mine at all. But we would both have the same "profile location" if we listed it.

Are you really going to look up elevation, soil type, weather, and altitude for EVERY person that posts ANYTHING on TBN? Right. I doubt it very much.

Why?

You're just going to end up cutting and pasting the same post that you've put on the forum for the last 8 years. Including the same lame "MY OH MY" statement about tractor weight. You don't need to know any poster's location for that. Same with cutting and pasting the tractor stats from "tractordata.com". You don't need to know the poster's location to do that either.

If a person wants to put their location down, fine. Really, it's fine. Mine is, and it doesn't bother me to have it there. Some folks don't want to. That is ALSO fine. It's not up to you. It's also NOT up to you to be "the one" that posts the life saving information that only you know how to cut and paste into the thread.

Just. Let. It. Go.

If someone asks about snow removal, chances are they have snow. If they ask about mowing, chances are they have grass. They may or may not tell you how much of each, but if they say they live in "Umpah Loompahville, Anywhere, USA", you're still not going to KNOW how much snow or grass they get. You'll still have to ask them for that specific info, and they'll still have to tell you.

If they want info, they'll post info needed to get it.

Why is this so hard for you?

Get up on the wrong side of the bed? Wife throw you out of the house? Constipated?

You need to lighten up and smell the petunia's.

Jeff was here a LONG time before you came along. Maybe you should leave. I'd say Jeff has seniority on your ....newbie.

I'm fine, thanks. I appreciate your concerns over my medical and domestic well being.

This is the internet. Neither you OR Jeffy owns it. Last I checked neither of you owned TBN either.

Feel free to pack off yourself anytime as well.

Hey guys, the OP asked a valid question and is bound to get a variety of answers; some more valid than others. While I make it a point to skip over Jeff's posts/threads, the time to take that up is not when somebody is trying to get some input.

Apparently AG19 found his answer though... for use around the home, a tractor without a loader is like a hand without a thumb. I haven't even owned a wheelbarrow in 20+ years.

Hopefully he will find something more suited for his needs, and will post back with pictures.

I still find a lot of use for a wheelbarrow. They fit through much narrower spaces for one.

Sometimes I have to use one but that’s a pretty miserable day.

After all the advice on hours & location, agh19 made his decision based on the BX not having fittings for an FEL hydruaulic valve.... so no more interest.....which is something not even mentioned in the original post.
BTW, I agree with most in that 1800 is not too many hours. And of course it does depend on condition and maintenance. Now that we know the tractor didn't have a loader, the hours become even less of a downside, since It's hard to abuse a tractor without a loader....
Too bad it doesn't have the FEL valve though. Around our place, using the loader is the most common reason for starting any tractor.

To the OP if he is still looking on, I’d look for a little bigger tractor, like a B series Kubota or 2 series JD. Are you going to live there a long time? If so it’s a long term investment for a tractor. I live on 3 acres and mow with my tractor, move dirt and rock, firewood, clear brush etc. I had a BX for 10 years, great little tractor and just bought a JD 2025r. The bigger size and bigger end loader is nice.

If this will be your first tractor the size can be intimidating but you will learn as you go. Most people use the end loader a lot more than they originally thought they would. Good luck in your search.
