Saw these photos on an LT1 forum (of all places) and thought I would share. If these have already been posted...sorry for the double post.

It looks to be an IH 1066 which I believe came with a 414 (not sure if that's the engine in these photos). But it's obviously souped up for the tractor pull and I understand they run up to 270psi of boost with sequential turbos. Anyway, looks like the boost tore the block right in half. Pretty impressive. You can see a piston flying out in the first photo.

I would say the driver was extremely lucky. The force of the blast went to the front. He would have suffered serious injury if the force had came backwards.

I wonder if he learned anything about boost pressure.

WOW in the first picture when she came unglued, It was still slinging dirt /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif That is something I have never seen...Thanks for posting

Yeah...the driver was lucky. He looked kind of stunned in the photos. But if you're into that kind of stuff then you are probably familiar with the risks. Although he should have had his visor down (unless it popped up).

I'm amazed that the headbolts didn't give out first. They must be using oversized studs instead of bolts. Also by the looks of how the block cracked I wonder if there could have been a flaw in the casting or maybe it's just because that is one of the thinnest parts of the block and the cam bearings also take away some of the strength.

In any event it does give you a view of the inside of a linered diesel engine that you would rarely see.

I'm not sure that is a piston flying out, actually, I believe it's the turbo parting ways with the motor and the motor looks strikingly like an 855 Cummins. That casting line in the third picture (I believe) with the recessed hex plug in it is common to all 855 blocks.

With that much boost on hand, you'd have to strap the head on with a metal girdle similar to what kart racers use.

Years ago my neighbor had a Massey V8 puller. Most serious pullers inject water for more power and to keep the engine cool. His massey passed a schoolbus on the paved road and the bus was going 55. I would have like to see the look on the kids faces when he went screaming by.

My thoughts would be a little too much boost /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif... We have seen heads being lifted off the block before, they must have a magic trick for that... next weak spot, the block /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif...

Really cool..... At least he didnt get hurt.

I find that duct tape works well for these kinds of repairs. It all depends on how you hammer it on. I think a bit of chewing gum might hold that turbo together, too.

If he had not had a substantial hood on that thing, a good portion of its guts might have ended up in the stands.

I especially like the ROPS, but gee, it looks like he made it himself...
