Took delivery of the new tractor yesterday....

Hey everyone,

I took delivery of my new Kubota 5040 yesterday. I traded in a year old m95 with 41hrs on it. I have downsized farms from two 300 acre farms to just one 100acre farm(that is 95% wooded). So I went from this:

I have to admit I was a little sad when I saw him taking my m95 and putting it on the trailer but I now have a tractor that is paid for vs. one that I still owed about a year and a half on. Plus I got something that is much smaller and capable of fitting in tighter areas. We have taken a d4 bulldozer and made trails all around this property so that we can get access to all of the different areas on the farm. The M95 was a very tight fit even with a lot of chainsaw work from the trees along the trails. Size was the main reason I traded tractors.

I only got to use the tractor for a little while yesterday because I was mainly using the dozer. Prior to having the M95 I had a Kubota M5400 for about 10-11years and I was expecting this tractor to be comparable. I used the front end loader some for moving some dirt/roots/downed trees to an area that we had staged for burning debris and it did a good job. The main thing that I see needing for this tractor is a ripper bar on the front bucket, hydraulic tilt/top link. The dealer said that he could add another set of hydraulic ports on the rear and set me up fairly easily when I take it in for the first service. All in all I would say that this tractor will be able to take care of my needs. Most of the work will be with a 7' bush hog but I will likely also use a box blade/disc/seeder/planter/etc. quite often.

Sweet tractor, congratulations especially on the "burn the payment book part!". I was surprised to see no grill guard though, is that going to be another add-on?

I was suppose to get one on there and didn't realize it wasn't there until I posted the pics. I'm going to see if there is a reason it wasn't on there.

Nice 5040 tho'. It'd be just the thing here in NY. Canopy and stack look like limb catchers.

Payments make me nervous too.

I know I'm gonna miss the canopy a little but I really needed something smaller. I could have gottenn the cab but didn't want to spring for the extra money. When I do bush hog up there it will literally be a 2-3 hours job. There just isn't much grass to cut.

That is an awesome looking tractor. Very jealous. The bigger tracor is pretty awesome too, but I have 250 acres of woods and planted pines and that bigger machine would be hard to get anywhere so I defintely understand the need for a smaller tracor. I think you will love the 5040.

Very nice tractor. seems like down sizing from 600 acres to 100 acres will save you a lot of work. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I certainly hope so. I have been maintaing two farms that belonged to my family and now I have gone and got something of my own. It sure is rewarding to be working on my own place now.
