Must be nice to have poplars to cut - we just have tall pines.

I'm cutting white oak this week for fence lumber. Cut a really nice 24" diameter one yesterday, sounded like the world coming to an end when it hit the ground. Butt log would veneer.....almost hate to cut it into fence lumber.

I took out three poplars last Saturday to make room for my rante.

We took one down with a 10K winch, pulling it out by the roots. The other two came down by using my tractor pulling a cable/chain attached about 20' up the tree. biggest was about 12-14" at the base.

When I lived in town I planted poplars down the Western boundary of the property to keep the sun off the side of the house. Cotton Root Rot and Beetles took care of the tree line. In 3 years the whole thing was dead starting at the road end.
