Been playng with my new 2538 hst, getting the feel of it etc
Already enjoyed the mystery of how stuck a post hole auger really can get, several great ideas for removing that!
But, thinking I'll need a tool box for wrenches, hammer etc.and looking for ideas about where to mount it and what to use as a box. The **** fuel tank fill cap ruins an obvious choice, but I'd love to here home grown modifications!
Thanks

Congrats on the new 2538. I've had mine for a little over a year, and have no regrets. Does everything I need and more.

As far as the tool box, I mounted a medium size one on the cowl covering the rear fuel tank, and mounted it to the right of the filler cap. (My filler cap is on the left end of the tank). If Mahindra has changed it to the center mount, then that's a bummer. You don't need a huge tool box. I just put an assortment of tools, and supplies I might need to get me back to the garage where more extensive work would occur. Couple of crescent wrenches, screw drivers, channel locks, pliers, utility knife, bungy cords, tape, a little wire, and whatever else you might need to get back to the garage. My tool box is only 6"x 12"x 6" and it's plastic to resist the weather. Some guys also mount it on the fenders, but I used those for installing my cup holders.

If you do the prescribed maintenance and don't beat the **** out of the tractor you should have very little problems. Let her warm up sufficiently before working it hard, change the oil and filter, fuel filter regularly, and be sure to do the 100 hour service for the rest of the fluids. Take your cue from your dealer for anything else that they recommend.

A few points my dealer made to me:
Take the outer air filter off daily and tap it against your front tire to release the dust in it. Then blow it out from the inside with compressed air or leaf blower.
Don't work the tractor under 1500 rpm (FEL, PTO attachments, etc) Keeps hydraulic fluid pressure up and flowing.
Don't wash the tractor's engine unless its running. He told me not to wash it, but blow the dust off with air.

Good luck, and welcome to the forum !
Merry Christmas.

Thanks for the input! I figured I'd need the usual "basic" tools and I know whatever tool I need, I won't have, but I gotta try! I think I have an old plastic box around somewhere.
As far as the cup holder, I happen to have an extra fold down one from my side x side that will fit right on the ROP. I also have to leave room for a rear work light. The wiring is there, I think, it just wasn't included.

You might try an ammo box - Various sizes available and they should seal tight. They are not exactly heavy gauge metal but enough even if you have to reinforce around the mounting points.

I mounted this nice 20 inch ranchex box on the fuel tank cover using a couple of angle brackets. It fits well there, but I need to design some sort of bracing so the box doesn't bounce so much. Even though the angle brackets (which came with the tool box) are heavy gauge, I could imagine constantly bouncing with the vibration of the tractor would eventually break them. This is the box I used: Amazon.com: RanchEx Portable/Mountable Tool Box, 2", Black: Garden & Outdoor

I mounted a 30 cal. Ammo can on my 2815.View attachment 544324

I have a couple of ammo cans that size and I'm thinking of putting them between the hood and the FEL tower, very near the dash area. Where you put yours is where my fuel tank is and there is no room aft of that because of how my hoe connects with its subframe and the lack of space. Mine will be going one on each side of the ROPS uprights - attached with u-bolts.

A little bit of dinking around but you could make a bracket and have it down low.

That’s about perfect for access. It’s a pain in the *** to try to get on the machine from that side so why not put it there.

I mounted mine on the offside step as well. Doesnt require any modification to the tractor and I never get on from the side anyways. In a pinch, I still can if I need too.

I am impressed. In western movies I recall seeing people mount Horses by jumping on from the rear. I have never seen anyone get on a tractor that way. Do you put the ROPS down or leave it up?

^^^^ I'm curious as well. Would like to see how you mounted it, or any brackets you may have made.

I'm also going to try and use the step mounting holes to make a tool box mount, I was just wondering, haven't went out to look yet but if I bought a new step from mahindra and was able to cut/modify it to hold a tool box it may be easier than fabricating a completely new bracket, any mount pictures fron yours would also be great thanks

I got a price for a step today, I just need to verify the left step will work on the right side, it was $68, not to bad I guess and worst case I move the toolbox someday then i will have an additional step, I plan on getting a rugged tool box so i can still step up on to it if need be
