Guys, you're missing the point. A "tool" box is just like doing "work" on your tractor. That box is about as much for tools as using a tractor is work. It's just another toy box - for pins and clips, radios, gloves, bungie cords, or what ever else is fun to have near by.

This discussion needs to stop before we completely blow our cover and our spouses figure out this is 100% about fun.

Sometimes to fool her into thinking I am doing something useful, I do carry big garden tools, like rakes and shovels and pry bars, out to the field in the bucket. Then, pursuant to Harv's training videos, I bury the tools somewhere that I forget. Not being as detail-oriented as Harv, I always do an incomplete job of burial and leave part of the shovel sticking out. That's so I can hit it the next day with my $3000 finish mower deck. Then I need a tool to remove the blades, and then another tool to sharpen them. But I have no tools in my toolbox. Being a very bad boy, I have also violated all of Bird's teachings and have failed to procure a Craftsman air wrench and grinder. Dealer time.

I'm thinking about naming the series, "The School Of Harv's Nots". /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Well, I haven't had my tractor stuck yet, but Glenn, on the other hand... :)

The only tool I ever saw a farmer carry, especially a Kansaw farmer is a pair of pliers, pronouced pluurs.
Don't need no stink'n tachometer and I don't need no stink'n tools.
Are plumbers made from the leftovers God had when he finished making masons and carpenters? J

Shame on you Glenn /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif I'm quite the opposite I guess. Being a dyed in the wool, board certified, card carrying, therapy seeking tool junkie I look at any task as an opportunity to add to my tool arsenal. Just ask my wife, but watch for that eye roll of hers /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

Now if I were in your shoes I'd be looking at a 3/4 drive Ingersol Rand impact wrench for those blade bolts. That'll be handy to have with the tractor anyway. I don't have many 3/4 drive sockets so add a set of those. English and Metric. Shallow and deep. A few extensions, a breaker and a ratchet should round out that collection. Oh yeah, that'll probably need some dedicated storage and my tool chest is full so throw in a larger tool chest. Hmm, is my air compressor adequate for that wrench. Probably, but the shear size of that wrench compared to my little 3/8 drive will be an easy sell on the wife for a larger compressor. Now we're really on a roll. You mentioned a grinder. Of course, you'll want a sturdy pedestal grinder and a variety of stones and accessories. Can't beat a little die grinder for on the tractor touch ups. I also like a disc grinder when you need a bit more uumph. Better check storage space again, might be time to upgrade the tool chest again /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Guess it's a good thing you and Harv live on opposite sides of the country; don't know what might happen if you two got together./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif If you ever co-author a book, though, I'll buy it./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I don't feel so bad now, as I thought I was the only one who carried a first aid kit on my tractor ( and a fire extinguisher too ).

Soundguy

P.S.

As someone pointed out.. the tools we carry on our tractor are more often used to fix something else ( towed impliment, etc ) than to fix the tractor, etc.

"4. If you're as adept as I am with all of the above, a small to medium-sized first aid kit is indispensable."

As a former physics and law student, I know that the law of averages is a universal truth. So, on average, RobS and I have just the right amount of tools. Also on average, Harv and I live in Kansas; and, as such, we are proud to have shown our pluurs to TresCrows when he was a boy.
