Toolkit revisited: What do I actually NEED?

I see you have gotten IMatch. Well if IMatch does not work in easily
getting the 3PH attachements on the tractor, get a long pry bar. 6
feet or so. I try to put my attachements down on round cedar logs.
With the "rolling" logs and the pry bar its pretty easy to get the
attachments in place.

Since you got a 4n1 bucket you are going to need a big sledge or
a smaller hand sledge hammer. I have the later. At some point
you are going to bend the bucket so that it won't close all the
way. A little application with the hammer solves the problem. You
will bend the side of the bucket especially if you are moving trees.

My tractor seems to have a need for large 20mm+ bolt heads.
Wrenches in that size are real expensive so I only by them when
I need them....

Dan, thanks for the tips. Do you think the 4in1 should be reinforced in some way? I'll bet Bob A and others would like to hear about that possibility. Bob just got his equipment, so he'll be ahead of me in that department. I'm considering all these suggestions while waiting for the tractor. Thanks.

Since I'm absent minded but seem to think better on the seat of my tractor I've found it handy to carry a sturdy note pad and pen in my tool box. Never remember to put one in my pocket till I'm underway.

If your 4n1 bucket is as heavy duty as mine you won't need to
reinforce it at all. Usually I get mine bent out of shape pulling
or picking trees or stumps. The wood can get wedged into the
bucket and push out on the sides. Just hammer the side back
into shape and off you go. Its only happened a few times but
the application with a hand sledge fixes things. Its kinda fun
fixing equipment with a hammer. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I've thought about it...that's why I got the toothbar for the 4in1. I figure the toothbar on the 4in1 will make that bucket just a bit more aggressive at times that I really need it. I also thought of having the dealer weld a couple of spikes to the outside of the bucket sides....this is something else I dug up here in one of the old threads. The 4in1, when open in clamshell mode, would have these spikes protruding about 3-4 inches that can then be used to grab onto logs and such. This might prevent the log from jarring loose and thus bending the bucket. I didn't have it done because the 4in1 that I have already has a couple of curved teeth on the lower lip of the clamshell opening. I don't know how these buckets were made in the past but JD is now making them with these curved teeth to provide greater 'grabbing' capability. I will see how this works...if it doesn't work well then I will revert back to Plan A.

Great news on those teeth, because I was thinking of welding the spikes, too. In fact that series of posts got me interested in the 4in1 to begin with. I'll be following your experience closely. Good luck with it.
