Where can I find a good vice for my toolbench and not spend 300.00 for it?

Probably going to be hard to find 1 that's not made in China. I bought mine from H.F. It's not the best. It has worked ok for me . Had it for several yrs now.. $40.00-$50.00 I think

You can try your local Craigslist and, for a bit more search area, Search Tempest.
Hard to find used vices though, I imagine...

Auctions or estate sale. I bought a Wilton Vise from a High School that was moving into a new building several blocks down the road. They outfited the metal shop with all new tools, so had an auction. a lot of old, but quaility tools sold.

Buy a junk Chinese one and then buy another when it breaks. Sucks but that's where we are at in this country.

The railroad would close a shop from time to time and auction the hundred year old stuff. Best vices I've ever seen and sold for more than I could pay. Sometimes you can find a good vice at a construction company liquidation.

Watch craigs or ebay for an older Columbian vise. They are usually a decent piece of equipment and often affordable unlike Wilton.

The last Columbian vise I saw was in Goodwill a couple of weeks ago. Price was $99.99. It was a 4 inch, I think.

A year ago a pawn shop had a 5 inch for $99.99.

Everyone has covered any advice I have. I picked up my Yost model 33C 5" vice for $25. I knew immediately it was a high quality heavy duty vice but I about fell over when I got home and looked it up online and saw they run about $1000. I bought it from a neighbor that has several yard sales every year and her husband is a retired plumber. Every now and then he'll put some tools in her sales. I've gotten some very good hand tools for "pennies" at their yard sales too.

I don't expect to ever find another deal like the one I got on the Yost but I do see a LOT of very good vices at local autions and they rarely sell for more than $150 for the very best ones.

Found a very heavy duty bench vise for $45 while at an antiques store with my wife. The secret of finding one at a good price may be to go shopping in places that real men dare not tread. Also, I wasn't looking for a vise, it just leapt out at me and begged to be taken away from that fru-fru place.
