Tooth Bar Bucket holes..Your thought please

Howdy, I have read about drilling the hole to add a tooth bar at the front oof the slot and at the back....Which is better? and why. I think I'm going with the Iowa farms tooth bar and before I drill my bucket I would appricate your input. Thanks :confused2:
I have the same toothbar as what you are planning on buying-holes in the back but I did add some 3"x3"x1/4" Simpson foundation plate washers on each side.

Very timely thread. I'm getting toothbar within the next few days. I'm not 100% sure if it has slotted holes or not, but if it does, I have some questions.

If I drill the holes for the front of the slot and then back drag with the tooth bar in place, is there a big chance that the tooth bar will slide forward and come loose? What if you place a piece of steel in the rear part of the slot to keep the bar from sliding forward? Wouldn't that work? You could then loosen the nuts, slide out the little pieces of steel, pull the tooth bar forward to flip it.

What am I missing?

The toothbar may well slide forward and come lose. If the bolts are in the rear of the slots, it can't go anywhere, period.

With the bar loosened and flipped, it would be quite easy to bend it. Not likely to happen if it is installed properly over the bucket's cutting edge or removed and stored in a safe place.

Quickest & easiest is often not the best.

My toothbar is slotted with the intent to flip it up and out of the way. I bolted mine on tight at the back of the slot. I also welded three inch square three sixteenth thick steel plates on the outside of the bucket to reinforce the bolt holes.

I take off the toothbar only during the winter for snow removal.

Before you do any drilling, mock the toothbar up and see if it will in fact "flip over", in my case it would not rotate backwards without grinding on all of the wedges. I learned years ago to thwart anything mechanical or architectural that would attempt to do double duty, as in most all cases D.D. meant each function would work to about 55%- of my expected capacity. Drill proper holes to suck it up snug-it's a toothbar! Install it to be a toothbar!

Thanks guys.

I also welded the nuts onto the inside of the toothbar so all I need to do is use one wrench to take it off. Simple.

OK, its the simple things that are most brilliant... Guess what ill be doing this spring....
