tooth bar for 4 in 1

Is it practical to have an add on tooth bar or individual PT style teeth on a 4 in 1 bucket? I am concerned that with only a 4 in 1 bucket that I will not have the digging capability in hard soil. Does anyone have the added teeth for the 4 in 1, is it necessary or should I also consider the small bucket with teeth?

Getting closer to buying - sold my house in Northern California and will be moving full time to the retirement home in November.

Don't know about the 4 in 1, but I have the small bucket with the PT teeth...wish I had the toothbar for easier on/off. Guess I should have read a few more posts in here before making that purchase! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

No need for another bucket. I have the 4n1 with the add on teeth and it works fine. Could go with a tooth bar for easier on/off, but I've never had a need for them to be off. Make you choice on best price for teeth, but don't buy another bucket to put them on.

IMO, the aftermarket toothbars work MUCH better than PT's add-on teeth for digging in hard-packed soil...

Putting teeth, or preferably a toothbar on the 4n1 would be an excellent way to go. The bucket is compact enough to be able to focus the digging forces into the teeth.

I would prefer the toothbar for ease of replacement of teeth and for ease of removal. As has been mentioned in other TBN posts, you can slot the installation tangs on the bar, and install by drilling your hole in the bucket to line up with the FRONT of the slot. Once installed, you can simply loosen the 2 bolts, pull the bar forward in the slots, and swing it up and out of the way, tighten the bolts and use the bucket knife edge for grading. When done, reverse the procedure and you have a working toothbar again. No need to ever completely remove the bar unless you want to.

Thanks for the excellent suggestions. My decision is made with only one bucket, the 4 in 1, and the many posts and comment on Markham seems to be the right way to go also.

I am now really getting excited about the move - moving truck tomorrow - and getting on with the PT purchase. I want to go to Tazewell so will be planning the trip sometime soon.

I don't have the 4in1 just the light bucket and the rock bucket, but just realized that rock bucket is going to need teeth!

To really confuse things, if I don't make it "quick-tach" no way it's going on the trailer [actually, the bucket would be fine, but no room for the tractor. Is Markham the bang for the buck on this one too? Anybody know their turn around right now?

Did I mention I love quality, but hate spending money (especially with my first tractor payment coming soon)?! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

iv'e been waiting for markham for almost a month now. theyr'e out of teeth. she said hope next week. im not in that big of problem so the wait is no big deal for me........

I called Friday she said there is a two week waiting period on teeth. I am going to order mine in the morning. I did quite a bit of digging in hard packed clay today with my 180. It did all right surprised me. Can't wait to see what she will do with a tooth bar. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
