I just bought a toothbar for my 54" JD bucket and i was able to use it to pull up stumps by digging around the stump and finally getting under it to pull it out. Toothbars are very useful and you will find that out after you get one. Pay the 300$ it will not be wasted by any means.

In yet another, earlier toothbar thread, I had reported on making my own toothbar, using a steel bar and forged combine teeth. Well, now that the snow isn't an issue, it's back on the bucket and getting use, mostly in tearing up a hardened pile of ground-up asphalt road material that I use to maintain our gravel lane. It makes loosening and loading the stuff MUCH easier, especially considering I have a smallish tractor (Kubota B8200) and 4' bucket. I'd say that unless sand is your material, get a toothbar.
