I am finding that most tractor sites don't post prices for their attachments and accessories....quite irritating!!!!

I would like to know what a good price for a standard and heavy duty bolt-on tooth bar for a John Deere-Model 70 loader would run?

Has anyone put one on their Utility Tractor? Has it significantly improved the ability to dig in hard, compacted dirt? Or is it a waste?

Thanks!

The toothbar on my 410 loader for my JD 4010 was $285. It's really heavy. Attaches with just 2 bolts on the side of the bucket. Don't have any experience digging dirt with or without it. Tried in my mulch piles with and without. Didn't really want it to dig too much into the dirt. The toothbar snagged more tree roots.

Since you've a #70 loader, you most likely have either a 770 or 790 tractor.
You probably have a 54" or a 60" bucket.

I bought a Woods tooth bar through Carver (in NC) for about $265. Came to just about $300 including shipping to PA.
This was for a 54" bucket on a Deere 670.
When I got my 790, it had a 61" bucket. I got the components...piece of the flat stock and one tooth...to extend the toothbar to fit the 61" bucket.

Now...the addition of the toothbar will greatly aid in getting into that dried clumpy dirt, but it's not going to turn your tractor into a 15 ton front end loader.

If you try to go right into a pile, you'll probably just set there and spin the tires.
However, if you use the toothbar to break up the pile (using the bucket in the dump position) and back dragging, you break the stuff up well enough to get a good bucket full. It does take a while to develop the technique. With experience comes speed, so don't expect much initially.

Bottom line..without the toothbar, you're not going to dig at all...not into dried clumpy material anyway. With the toothbar...you'll still not be as quite as a construction front end loader, but you'll be able to do the job. However, these are loaders..not excavators. If you want to move piles of dirt and such, it'll do the job. The loaders don't go deep enough to really be good at excavating.

There ya go...

Typically I will send the company an email about pricing and shipping, if they don't respond they are probably not worth dealing with.

I purchased a toothbar from Markham Welding. It was $317 with shipping and arrived in Wisconsin 3 days after ordering it.

It's on a JD 4600 with a 460 FEL, the tractor doesn't work as hard when doing loader work and also seems to increase the volume of the bucket.

JD4600 with 460FEL with pallet fork and 7'6" Western Snow Plow, JD LX279, 84" KK finishing mower, 84" KK Landscape Box, 84" KK Landscape Rake, 84" KK Blade, and 72" KK Bush Hog, 7' Northern Tool Backhoe, Bri Mar 6X10 Dump Trailer, 20' Rugged Road Equipment Trailer.

It's like night and day with mine. As stated earlier you're still limited with digging but it does much better getting into an old pile that's settled or when trying to actually dig dirt from an area. The toothbar is also great for pushing up brush and small trees. There is a downside when you need to backdrag or scoop material from the surface without disturbing the grass underneath. I could remove the toothbar but haven't since I put it on. Just lazy I guess?

thanks guys. I just purchased a tooth bar locally, ($250) after looking at many others on the internet. The one i landed on is designed a bit different that all the others ive seen where there is a bracket beneath each tooth wraps over the cutting edge.

The one that I purchased has two plates of steel welded to form a wedge....the entire cutting edge of the bucket slips inside the wedge distributing the pressure across the whole inside length of the bucket. The V from the wedge forms a new cutting edge and the teeth are welded to these long plates of steel.

I am excited to try it out.....I'll let you know how it works!
