I just received a 71-1/2" toothbar from Iowa Farm Equipment with no installation information included or on their website. There is a 2-1/2" slot on each end for a provided 3/4" bolt. Where should I drill the bucket holes in relation to the slot? Setting them full forward to allow the toothbar to slide forward, flip over and roll back into the bucket by loosening the bolts won't work because the lower attachment slots are too long and would still hang up on the cutting edge so without a lot of grinding, that's out. Okay, now where do you suggest? It sure looks nice and heavy and quite well built, the toothbar, that is.....

Drill the bucket so the bolts install in the back of the slot. This keeps the toothbar tight to the bucket's cutting edge now, and provides for the possibility of the original bucket cutting edge wearing further when the toothbar is removed. Don't expect to rotate the toothbar out of the way by loosening the bolts. If you want it out of the way, remove it.

Jerry, I find this question a bit curious because all my NH buckets have holes already in them. Is your 16LA bucket undrilled? Perhaps is it not an OEM NH bucket?

Exactly how I installed mine.

I drilled mine at the front of the slot to be able to rotate it out of the way for short term needs. The act of digging keeps the bar tight to the cutting edge in my case. I'm also not fretting over cutting edge wear as I figure that most average CUT owners will never wear out a cutting edge with normal usage.

Wouldn't having the ability to loosen the bolts allowing the bar to be slid forward and flipped up and over come in handy for using the bucket edge to grade off your diggings?

Jim,

I don't know about the 16LA buckets, but I have a NH bucket for my 32LA that required drilling.

Jim, I bought 'er "brang new" including the 16LA and 72" bucket from a local NH dealer. You actually made me go out to the shop (yes, it's raining here again-SHEESH) feeling a little dumb as I know full well after owning the tractor for over eight years that there are no pre-drilled holes in the bucket.:confused2: I certainly trust your proven TC knowledge so this bucket might be of another brand but there are no markings punched, decaled or painted. Sidenote: Finished the install yesterday of the Gearmore tilt cylinder. It sure swings that box scraper around!

Jinman, you talking about the holes in the front cutting edge ?

Pretty sure these guys are talking about the holes in the 'side' of the bucket to mount an after market tooth bar.

Jerry, does the front cutting edge on your bucket have holes in it? Is it a quick-attach bucket? I'm thinking you may not have an HD bucket, but rather a Std. Duty one. The pin-on buckets may be std or HD, but all quick-attach buckets are HD to my knowledge and have holes drilled through the cutting edge for mounting a cutter bar and also have holes in the sides for mounting toothbars. Of course, it's also possible that this is not a hard and fast rule and I'm not as smart as I thought I was.:laughing:

Willl: My 72" HD pin-on bucket came with holes in the cutting edge and holes in the side pre-drilled. My 60" quick-attach bucket has both holes in the side and cutting edge as well. I know that the Std Duty buckets I've seen have no holes drilled and that's why I'm curious about Jerry's bucket.

EDIT: I found this picture of my 72" bucket with the cutterbar installed. Notice the hole drilled on the far inside of the bucket. It's hard to see on the near side, but very obvious on the far side. This is a HD 72" pin-on bucket.
