Hello everyone, can somebody point me in the right direction on where to get a toothbar for my Bushhog 1846 QT loader? I have a 48 inch bucket and need to do some digging, I'm sure a toothbar would make a positive difference. Thanks in advance for your response
Pete

PeteV,
Almost any equipment dealer can order one for you. There are a few dealers here at TBN that will too. I just ordered a 54" bolt on, about $270.

Thanks Inspector, just was not sure if toothbars were made for specific instalation or brand bucket. Toothbars must be one size fits all ?? didn't know if the thickness of the cutting edge and the angle of the edge matter?
Thanks Pete

Does bush hog sell a tooth bar for the 1846? When I got mine a couple of years ago, I ask about a tooth bar and they said it was not recomended to install one. There is no mention of an optional tooth bar in the manual. Only option is a leveling rod and a forklift head.

Pete,

Mine was made by FFC Attachments in IL. Tell your local dealer to contact them. Shipping to you shouldn't be bad at all. I paid just under $300 for my 60" delivered to my door. I'd guess a 48" at somewhere around $240-$250. I'm very pleased with mine.

Good luck with whatever you decide. I hope this helps. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

PeteV,

Actually what is done is the bucket is measured as exactly as possible, and this measurement is supplied to the toothbar manufacturer...who then produces a toothbar to fit your bucket just right.

The toothbar that I have is slightly narrower than the bucket, by say a quarter inch or so. The tabs that are bolted to the bucket sides are pulled slightly to the sides by the mounting bolts...

If you get a good toothbar you won't have to baby it. I can't imagine why mine is still like new...less paint...with the abuse I have put it through...

My toothbar covers the bottom cutting edge completely...

Pete,
FFc does want all the dimensions including the cutting edge thickness. I asked Jeff if he needed that when he ordered mine(WR Long), and was told that the bar will slip on no matter the thickness. But I assume it's tapered there, and will slide on further on some buckets than others. Mine will hopefully be arriving in a week or so. I suppose you could call the person I ordered mine from.......and with plastic in hand yours will be on the way too.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Jerry,

You'll love what your toothbar does to the utility of your loader bucket. It's truly a night to day difference.

As to FFC wanting the dimensions, I got lucky in that I ordered mine through a JD dealer who, of course, had all the dimensions to my JD bucket right at hand. All I needed was the plastic. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I did send an e-mail to FFC with all the dimensions they asked for on the web-site, hopefully they will get back to me tommorrow with a price. Can't wait to see what a difference it is going to make!! Need to do some digging/excavating for a foundation for an addition we are planning to start soon. I know that the 1846 (mounted on a Yanmar 226D) is not the most heavy duty, do it all, type of loader, but I think that with a little common sense I should be able to what I need to do. That hard %#@*&% clay we have here in NW ohio in the summer might as well be concrete. I hope that a toothbar would make it a little easier on the tractor/loader. BTW Inspector, how are you liking that New Holland tracktor?, Did you let your 1700 go?
thanks Pete

LOVE that new BLUE tractor. Yes I did sell the Yanmar, the CFO said only one to a customer.
My 54" WR LONG toothbar is costing me $270 w/shipping.
