Too true, Inspector. But then, again, "no pain, no gain."

Of course, I could cheat, and try to stay away from the teeth, but I sometimes don't think of it in time..... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I hate my toothbar...to be off the bucket. Besides, the Kioti looks better when it's smiling. John

"no pain, no gain."

I don't hate my toothbar.. but those teeth don't move much when you hit your leg or knee against them. This is one reason I started parking the tractor w/ the toothbar pointing straight down.. the back of the bucket makes a pretty good sitting spot.

When it comes to the marks on the garage door where I ran into the house, I hate what it does sometimes, but still love _it_.

Perfect timing here....I hate not having a toothbar. See, early on with my 4110, @ about 10 hrs, I bent the cutting edge on my 61" bucket. After straightening it, my solution was to weld a replacement cutting edge to the bottom, to double up and give it more strength. This was before I knew about toothbars. My dilemma now is: Do I try to find a toothbar that will actually fit my double-thickness cutting edge? Or, do I buy a 49" bucket, which is a better size for digging than 61", AND a toothbar? I like the thought of two buckets, but that setup will cost roughly $800. I would go for it, but I'm actually close to pulling the trigger on a 46 backhoe. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Unfortunately, that will blow the tractor budget for a couple of seasons. So, my question to those with toothbars AND backhoes is, which one could you do without? I know, now I've really stirred the pot!

Wouldn't willingly do w/out either, but one consideration that just MIGHT take it beyond mere preferences, is that a good new BH and subframe mount is gonna set you back $5500 or more whereas you can get a GREAT toothbar for $150 + or -.

Of course, since they do pretty much wholly different things, the question of which you can do w/out depends on what you are planning on doing.

You just can't dig deep narrow trenches, or any other small, deep holes with a FEL, either w/or w/out a toothbar. On the other hand, a BH isn't designed for, or particularly good at, carrying stuff.

Just a few hours of seat time has amply proven to me that the FEL, with a toothbar is a much better tool, for both digging and carrying, than one without (especially, with respect to carrying, when the toothbar is used in combination with bucket hooks and a length of chain).

....long as I could afford it budgetwise, I'd buy the BH, negotiate a modest price concession w/the dealer, and use that to buy a toothbar. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I don't hate them, nor do I need them /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Basically,
I have no problem digging into the dirt around my house.
I can only think of one project where I could use a toothbar
as of now. Also, it is not only the cost of buying one, but having to store it and remove it before snow season comes /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Maybe if I ever get around to building my barn I will cough
up and buy one
