Im in the market for a Toothbar for my loader bucket and read were Markham Welding was bought out last year. Does anyone know if the new owners are offering the same quality Toothbars?

Last spring I bought a 4' grapple rake and a 6' (7-tooth) toothbar from Gator. This was while the Markhams were still working there (Melissa took my order). Both the grapple rake and the toothbar saw pretty heavy use this past summer and held up nicely.

I'd like one myself...has anybody made their own? I did a search on here but didn't see anything specifically related to a home made tooth bar. If you have done it, could you show some pics and/or point me to the thread about it? Not trying to derail this post but the prices of tooth bars makes me think a guy could make his own for less $$....

I thought about making my own, but sourcing the forged teeth and cast tooth bases didn't seem worth the effort when I had a toothbar delivered for $344.24

This link is where I got mine
Bobcat Skid Steer Loader Tractor Bucket Teeth Tooth Bar - eBay (item 110471384924 end time Dec-12-10 17:38:30 PST)

Made by United Steel Works in Massachusetts. Purchased off Ebay, not an auction. It was a "Buy it Now" sale.

No reason that you could not make your own, provided you have the welding skills to do so. The teeth are available (google for 'em) and the materials can be purchased though steel vendors. Just that it's hard to do cost-effectively with all the right stuff...on a onesy-twosy basis. ;)

Exactly! Though there is a sense of satisfaction in making something yourself.

You're probably right, once you buy the teeth, the adapters, pins, etc...

I built my own. I used just mild steel for all of it, including the teeth. It works awesome. I now have quite a few hours on it moving lots of material and no wear to speak of. I'm moving gravel and dirt, not scraping concrete. Total investment is about $40 in steel and a morning in the shop. here is a link to some pictures.

Man, you just made my day. Your solution fits my budget and would work fine for what I need to do. Thanks!

Nice job! But only a morning in the shop? That would take me all weekend! And I'd still not have it done. You must have quite a shop. Cutting and cleaning up all those parts would take me forever. (My torch work is a bit rough.)
Again, nice work.

sbrace, I bought a tooth bar from Gator, just after the transition. It was for my L3400 Kubota. I have used it all through the summer and literaly put it through He**. It still looks brand new except for the paint being worn off. I paid $299.00 I have the 66" bucket and it has six teeth. The quality of work is exceptional. I would highly recommend it. Hope this helps:)

Just as an example for self-building with top quality materials;

Cast tooth Fabco 8330 $7.18 Bucket Teeth - 23 Series
TB-1001-23 Shank $17.33
Series 23 pin $2.16

7 sets of teeth: 7 x $26.67 = $187

6 ft of 1/2 x 4" 1055 cutting edge $60 Cutting
edge

So, $250 before shipping for most of the material for a 7 tooth 6 foot tooth bar. Be sure to add the mounting bolts and 1/2 x 2" material for mounting to the bucket. Buying one pre-made for $300 doesn't seem like a bad deal. But, like was said earlier, I ordered similar to the above and built one myself just for the enjoyment of constructing.

I bought a used one off Craig's List for $100... had to shorten it so it took a little time but for the prices I've seen... I'm very happy with it. :)

Come to think about it, it wasn't "used", it was brand new, just never mounted... but it sat outside leaning against a tree for few years.

I got mine from Gator and it has been a GREAT investment.. If you do any type of digging, soil removal, or landscaping you will really appreciate the toothbar..

we put in a flower bed this fall and with the toothbar i was able to just roll up 90% of the sod right into the bucket (as long as the flower bed was going to be as wide as the bucket LOL)..

Honestly Im sure I saved enough in chiropractor co-pays because I had the toothbar instead of using a shovel to do stuff..

Well, heck, I did that (unintentionally) more than once before I even got the toothbar; my wife was not pleased.
To prove that I'm not totally ineducable, its been nearly a year since I have forgotten to raise the bucket before driving forward! Still, I try to avoid parking on the lawn anymore.

i have been looking for one also, but i asked my local cub yanamr dealer and he said that you have to be careful because you can rip your bucket and loader because of it catching on something you can handle.
