Toothbar

Hey Guys,
I've heard alot of you talking about putting toothbars on your buckets. How helpfull are these? Is it really worth putting one of these on? I priced out a woods toothbar and the dealer wanted $350. That seems really high to me!?! It would be going on a TC35D.

Any thoughts suggestions?

It depends on what you are doing.

IF you are digging, a toothbar is a very valuable time saver. If you are simply moving mulch, rock/gravel, compost, etc from piles, or cleaning out barn stalls then it might not be worth it to you.

Generally put, the right tool for the right job will make the job much easier and faster. If you are digging with your FEL, a tootbar is the right tool.

Really depends on what u want to do , i have had mine for quite awhile, for digging in hard dirt, can;t be beat, for moving brush and blowdons very handy.i bought mine from carvers, of course mine is just 48 in and i paid$255 delivered, but that was 3 years ago. but i would still check with them. you are speaking of a removeable tooth bar right?

Jay I've heard some TBNers say that a tooth-bar is like a bucket on steroids. I'm not speaking from 1st hand experience as mine has yet to be delivered. But after reading a lot of positive posts I am looking forward to using it.

It is a must have item.

You will not be going into a shredded mulch pile without one....
Ice piles are not a problem either.... anything you need to get under, that clumps, holds, or needs to be smaller, a toothbar will help you out.

Do a search on Kiohio especially in the Kioto forum. He is active, but not on all forums. He is a Kioti dealer and can work something out for you. Here's his homepage with phone number.
Keep in mind, mine was for a 54" toothbar, bigger they are, pricier they get.

Jay, Tooth bars come with different size teeth. There are tooth bars, heavy duty tooth bars and Super heavy duty tooth bars, (or whatever terminology the manufacture uses) all with increasing prices. The more hard digging and brush clearing and larger your bucket is the more heavy duty teeth you might need. Attached is a Super Heavy Duty
tooth bar on a 72" bucket. It is awesome.

A toothbar is very handy, for all the reasons mentioned above (see riptide, et al). If you ever felt like a set of forklift tines would be handy, but too expensive, whatever, well, the toothbar is capable of doing some of what the f/l tines would do.
Landscaping work is not compatible though -- you can't scoop up black dirt off pavement, or back drag dirt smoothly, and so you'd have to remove the toothbar.
One friendly tip though -- when manuvering in tight spaces with the FEL mounted, swing wide !!! It's amazing how those teeth will manage to get hooked on almost everything !!

The tooth bar I have is a little different than most I have seen posted here, in that it has the teeth welded onto a V-shaped piece that actually slips over the cutting edge. This makes for a VERY strong lower lip.

With the toothbar on the bucket, I doubt I could bend the bottom of the bucket regardless of what I do with it.

The rivits rest against the bucket lip, and there is a piece of steel under the bucket that mirrors that which is on top.

Like the others, it takes about 2 minutes to take off or put back on. A photo is attached.

I added a tooth bar to my 60" bucket on my 4100. It has greatly increased the effectiveness of the loader for digging, leveling, spreading, and smoothing.

Although it is removable, I have never been motivated to remove it. The only reason I think I might want it off is as one poster mentioned, to get that last bit of dirt or rock cleared off of the driveway. However, when I actually did want to move the last sccop of a pile, it was quicker to grab a shovel and load it by hand into the bucket then messing around removing the teeth.

I do wish my toothbar was a little less heavy duty than it is. Mostly beacuse its weight detracts from the already under-powered capactiy of my little 4100. The fact that it increases the amount of dirt you can hold in a full bucket makes it easy for me to scoop up more than the loader can lift.

The only other negative things I can say are:

1. Ditto on watching where you are going - it will put a hole in the side of your house real quick!

2. Be careful how you park the loader in the garage - those teeth are murder on the feet if you trip on one.

3. It makes the machine look more serious than it really should. The professional excavator who has done various work on my house-building project was even more amused by my overgrown lawn-tractor with teeth almost as big as those on the full-sized machine he had brought to dig my water line.

Henro loan it to a few of the folks here that are hammering in fence posts with their FEL buckets, I'll bet they could do a number on it for you. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I will have to look and see if I can find the info. I ordered it with the tractor when I bought it, and can claim no responsibility for getting something I am REALLY happy with, as I did not know anything about toothbars at the time and just took what the dealer provided.

Some time ago I did post the info in a thread here I am pretty sure, but finding that would be more difficult that looking through the paperwork upstairs...wait a minute, that might not be true...I do think of junkman's garage when I go upstairs sometimes... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I guess what I meant to say was that the bottom lip if the bucket really seems strong now...for pushing trees, stumps, grabbing rocks and so on...

Don't forget Trescrows' first rule of tractoring: Never loan your tractor to anyone!. I subscribe to that one...

By the way, I don't know if that is Trescrows' rule or not...just made that up... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif ...but it feels like it is his rule... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
