Recent discussions about removing trees coupled with the current mild local weather had me motivated to tackle some overgrowth that was too big to get at with my JD 413 rotary cutter last summer. A stand of white pines. Many in the 4"- 6" dia. range.

Bolted the toothbar back onto the loader bucket today and went at it for while this afternoon.

Here's some pics./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Did the same two days ago. Branch pulled out the right rockshaft hitch pin on the 3PH, the linkage jammed on the end and sheared the rockshaft pin. $100 later, I safety wired the hitch pin in place but will soon install a bolt with washer and lock nut. Normally its not a problem when you lose the hitch pin since the arm pops off. When you have a backhoe, the mounting plate clearance is close so a loose linkage arm can jam at the end of the rockshaft pin.

Looks like good soil too. Used to be a horse corral.

Sure felt like springtime today here today.

Local weather station keeps reminding us we had 40" of snowfall during the month of March last year./w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Very nice set of pictures, DFB.

I just gotta get me one of them toothbars. As one of the least exepensive accessories, there's an outside chance it might just happen, too.

If your weather holds, could you get some shots of just how you attack those trees with the toothbar?

Great photos DFB.
Your JD4100HST still looks show room condition, you must wash and wax etc.. weekly.

Indeed its been a mild winter compare to last year and its great. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

By the looks you didn't have much frost in the ground if any.

Enjoy your day and do be safe.

Pretty much used this technique described in the Removing Trees thread. Those small pines trees were shallow rooted and came out pretty easy by pushing them over then digging under the rootball and lifting up and pushing foward with the tractor. I still have the tire chains on and that helped increase traction too. Definitely cut down on spinning out those R4's in that melting snow. Things can get pretty slippery.

Here's another couple of pic for the time being.

Hooking onto the rootball using the toothbar and drawing back to pull the tree out. Tooth bar also helps to lift and carry the tree and slash too.

Yea right. /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

Thomas, no frost at all under that stand of trees. Thick bed of pine needles on the ground too. Got lucky there. Still plenty of frozen earth just about everywhere else. That last storm was pretty nasty over here.
Had 6" of snow and with 2" of sleet and ice on top of it.

Had a taste of mud season over the last few days though.

DFB,

Ditto on the nice pictures. To bad those white pines were'nt in a better location for you. We have many small ones on our five acres that serve as property line trees. I've always liked white pines, to bad you couldn't "beam me over" a bunch to stick on my property /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
