top link chain

I remember some guys talking about attaching the top link on a rotary mower with a chain to let it float. I need to do that for a spring tooth harrow I bought. Does anyone have pics showing how this is done? As always thanks TBNrs.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Excellent representation there.

But I have to ask why you used a chain since you have the swinging TL bracket on the bushhog?? Shouldnt the swing cover everything except the most EXTREME angles??

Thanks Jim. I forgot to mention that I am using a Landpride quick hitch and the top link attachment on the harrow is about a foot below where I can attach to the quick hitch. Make sense? Thanks. Sometimes I hate to ask what may sound really dumb, but it is my first tractor and I don't want to screw it up. My tractor is a NH 1520.

Guess I'm extreme

A lot of my hogging is done by backing down over a creek/ditch bank. The cutter drops down and then when I come back up the top link would then bind up. I found I was actually compressing the top link into the back of the tractor. Got lucky, only think I broke was a few lynch pins. Went to this setup and haven't broken anything since. One word of warning. I have caught the front of the mower on stuff and caused the back of the mower to raise up a couple of times. Scares you at first especially when it slams back down. I try to make sure to keep the front of the mower up so it doesn't catch the ground, but once in awhile.....

I guess I just like the way my bushhog 105 is chained.

It is one that uses a rigid TL but the support from there to the tail wheel is a chain.

It would be like taking those two metal straps off you yours and replacing with chain.

This is the second BH I have had like this. One was a Modern Sunshine model (older) and it used 2 1/4" chains on a bit of an angle, almost exactally like those straps on yours. By current older bushhog model 105 just has one single chain. But it is 3/8 chain:thumbsup:
